Spelling Information for the Week of April 24, 2017, to April 28, 2017

Dear Parents,

Practice the following words: Red Words: ghost, sure, oil, page, shoe, tear

Vocabulary Words: sills, skids, nightingale, hearth, sapling

Green Word Study

This will be a review week of open and closed syllables, as well as, magic-e words for our “Green Word” pattern focus. Students will be given words to divide into syllables and to mark each syllable as open, closed, or magic-e. Please practice these words as your child brings home activity pages and dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from these pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to fifteen or more “open/closed or magic-e” Green Word Pattern words on their Friday, April 28th spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the vocabulary words sills, skids, nightingale, hearth, and sapling. These vocabulary words are from our new selection, Little House on the Prairie, that correlates to our biography reading selections and our present informational writing. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Red Word Study

Our new red words for the week will be oil, page, shoe, and tear. Our review red words are ghost and sure. All of these words will be on our Friday spelling test. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

Please note that our final spelling test for all words will be on Friday, April 28, 2017.
