Reading: Read on a nightly basis. Document the time spent reading, title of the book, and a parent signature Monday through Thursday.

Review Red Words: don’t, push, its

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

Red Word Focus

This week we will review the Red Words don’t, push, and its. Our new Red Words are above, eye, it’s. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words, and they do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Pattern Focus

There will be no Green Word Pattern for the week because of our two hour early release on Wednesday and our field trip on Thursday.

Reading Focus

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.4

Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from an array of strategies

Please note that on Tuesday, October 16th, students will be taking their vocabulary test for the selection, “Freckle Juice.” The students have been studying these words on a daily basis during Guided Reading time and should have a copy in their “Take-Home Folder.” The words are as follows: freckles, wart, poke, recipe, combination, arithmetic, aisle, panted, speck, ingredients, drift off, sensible, appendicitis, chattering, and formula.

Please note, the students will only be expected to know and write our new and old Red Words for this week on the Thursday, October 18, 2018, Spelling Test.
