Reading : Students will need to complete at least 12 nightly reading activities to have a completed reading log for the month of May.

Math: Module 6, Lesson 18 Homework

Spelling: Review all Red Words and Green Word Pattern Review of -igh and Consonant -le words. Review the vocabulary words jubilation, furrow, ornery, tenderfoot.

Spelling for the Week of May 8, 2017 to May 12, 2017

2nd Grade Red Word List

1st Quarter Words: each, call, goes, pull, girl, white, talk, friend, which, very

2nd Quarter Words: many, also, black, these, why, around, don’t, push, it’s, its, eye, above

3rd Quarter Words: always, brother, other, sister, knew, were, yellow, should, their, sign, buy, often

4th Quarter Words: almost, does, eight, father, part, floor, sure, ghost, oil, page, shoe, tear

Green Word Study

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week will be the review of –igh and the Consonant –le endings –ble, -fle, -tle, -dle, -gle, -kle, -ple, and –zle. We will practice spelling and writing words with “-igh, -ble, -fle, -tle, -dle, -gle, -kle, -ple, and –zle” during class each day. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more ““-igh, -ble, -fle, -tle, -dle, -gle, -kle, -ple, and –zle words on their Friday spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the vocabulary words jubilation, furrow, ornery, and tenderfoot. These vocabulary words are from the selection, Little House on the Prairie, that correlates to our biography reading selections and our present informational writing. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Red Word Study

Our year ends with the review of all 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter Red Words. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. This will be the final assessment for all 2nd grade red words.

Please note that this final spelling test will be on Friday, May 12, 2017.
