Spelling Information for the Week of April 22, 2019 to April 26, 2019

Dear Parents,

Red Words: clothes, sound, whole, through, world

Red Word Focus

The Red Words for the week will be the 3rd Grade, 3rd Quarter Red Words, clothes, sound, whole, through, and world. The final test for these words will be on Friday, April 26th. The words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our Green Word Pattern will be a review of open and closed syllables with an emphasis on Magic-e. In class we will be reviewing one and two syllable words with the Magic-e pattern. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more words on their Friday, April 26, 2019, spelling test.

Reading Focus

We will continue to study about the Titanic. Students will continue to learn about the famous Titanic, including how it was constructed and the recent discovery of the vessel. Our reading selection will be I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic. Our writing focus will continue to be poetry (CCSS.ELA-WRITING.2.5)), and our grammar focus will be identifying and using prefixes and suffixes. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.4.CCSS.ELA-ITERACY.L.2.1.E

Please once again note that on Friday, April 26, 2019, the spelling test will include Red Words clothes, sound, whole, through, world, and the Green Word Pattern of open and closed syllables with an emphasis on Magic-e.
