Math: Lesson 8 Homework, Module 1

Spelling: Please write each red word (1^st and 2^nd Grade) and vocabulary word three times each for homework. Return the completed spelling practice on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, September 8, 2017.

Spelling Information for the Week of September 5, 2017 to September 8, 2017

Dear Parents,

Our spelling words this week include red words, green words, and one vocabulary word.

Red Words

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out. We will continue to review an additional ten first grade red words.

1^st Grade Review Red Words: know, done, every, there, any, once, how, own, were

We will continue to review our two second grade red words, call and each. Each student must receive a 100 percent on these two second grade red words for two weeks in a row to show mastery and receive a final grade.

2^nd Grade Red Words: call, each

Green Words

Our “Green Word” list for the week includes learning about vowel teams. Vowel teams are often introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” The vowel team we will be focusing on this week will be “ai.” The vowel team “ai” says long a.

Vocabulary Words:

Our spelling test will also include one vocabulary word that is from our reading selection, “First Day Jitters.” The word downstairs contains our vowel team pattern, “ai.”
