Spelling: Information for the Week of April 4 – April 8, 2016
Dear Parents,
Red Words
Our two new second grade red words are almost and does. Students should write these words 10 times each for homework practice.
Green Words
This week our students will be learning about the diphthongs ow (as in clown) and ou (as in ouch). The two sounds are taught together as the two (ou)’s. The ow spelling is taught first. Listen and read the following sentence. What sound do you hear that is the same in each word? How now brown cow? The ou is taught second. “If I pinch you (demonstrate gently), you will say ‘ouch.’ When I pinch the w off the ow, add a u after the o, it still says ‘ou’.” Please practice the words that contain the diphthongs ow and ou on the dictation pages that will be completed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the classroom. Continue to practice these words as your child brings them home. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages or words that have a similar ow or ou pattern.
Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, April 8, 2015.
Thank you,
Mrs. Arp
