Spelling Information for the Week of October 5, 2020 to October 9, 2020

Dear Parents,

Once again, each student will have a weekly “Red Word” test and a “Green Word Pattern” spelling test for the week.

Spelling:

Red Words RF.2.3

Our 1st grade Red Word review words are as follows: some, there, two, way, were, where, and who.

Our three 2ndgrade Red Words will once again be pull, girl, and white.

The final grade for these words will be on Friday, October 9, 2020.

Green Word Pattern RF.2.3

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week will be the vowel team (digraph) “oa.” Vowel teams (digraphs) are often introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” The vowel team “oa” says long o. Students will be expected to apply this information to ten “oa” words on their Friday spelling test. Students will be practicing “oa” words on dictation pages. Please practice these words as your child brings them home. Weekly spelling test words will come from these dictation pages. Students will also be asked to apply his/her knowledge of the “oa” pattern on several other words not found on the dictated pages.

Reading – RL.2.5, RL.2.7/Writing – W2.3

We will continue to practice and identify the characters, setting, and plot (BME) for various books within our Leveled Readers during our Guided Reading activities. Our writing focus will continue to include narrative writing activities.

Math – 2.0A.2, 2.OA.1, 2NBT.5

Our math activities include adding and subtracting like units, making a ten to add within 20, and making a ten to add within 100. We will continue to review bonds of ten, doubles, doubles +1, and doubles –1. We will begin Module 2 on Friday.

Science/Social Studies – Government 2.10, 2.12

We will continue to review our “PAX Vision” kernel and our “PAX Leader” kernel in and out of the classroom. Our next review of PAX kernels will be “PAX Quiet” and “PAX Stix”.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp, Mr. Inman
