Spelling Information for the Week of October 24, 2016 to October 27, 2016
Dear Parents,
Green Word Study
Our “Green Word” pattern for the week will be a review of the 1st quarter green word patterns as follows: initial blends, consonant digraphs, short vowels, magic e, ea, ai, oa, -ng, -nk, -ed, and open/closed syllables.
We will practice spelling and writing words with these combinations of sounds during class each day. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to words on their Thursday spelling test.
Vocabulary Study
Our spelling test will also include the reading vocabulary words accordion, dungeon, villains, and announced from our reading text, “Miss Daisy is Crazy!”
Red Word Study
Our same three red words will be the words many, black, and also. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.
Please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for these red words.
Please note that our final spelling test will be on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
