Red Word Focus

The 4th Quarter Red Words for the week will be the words father, part, and floor. These words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Please remember, each student must receive a 100 percent for two weeks in a row to receive a final grade for the Red Words father, part, and floor. Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be ar as in star. Please practice all words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will also be expected to apply this pattern to other words for a total of 10 or more ar pattern words on their Friday, January 11, 2019, spelling test.

Reading Focus

Our reading focus will be the genre, “Fairy Tales.” Students will identify the elements of fairy tales, recount stories to determine their central message, lesson, or moral, identify character traits, and learn to compare and contrast two versions of the same story. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.2, 2.9). We will begin reading the fairy tale, Red Riding Hood, retold and illustrated by James Marshall. Our writing focus will be opinion writing (CCSS.
