Math: Module 7, Lesson 8, Homework, Money Sheet (Page 2)

Reading: There is no reading requirement this evening.

Our last three new 2nd Grade Red Words for the 4th quarter are page, shoe, and tear, and our last three new 3rd Grade Red Words for the 3rd quarter are through, world, and anyone . Our “Green Word Pattern” phonics lesson this week will be the completion of the study of “Consonant-le Endings.”

Red Words

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.

Our 4th quarter 2nd grade Red Words are as follows: page, shoe, and tear. Our 3rd Quarter 3rd grade Red Words are as follows: through, world, and anyone. We will study these words throughout the week before we have our final spelling test on Friday, April 23.

Green Word Pattern Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be “Consonant-le Endings.” The endings are as follows: -ble, -tle, -gle, and –ple. In class we will be decoding words with these endings. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages brought home in your child’s folder. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more words on their Friday spelling test.

Homework:

Write the Red Words for 2nd Grade, page, shoe, tear, or the Red Words for 3rd Grade, through, world, or anyone, 3 times each and use each word in a complete sentence for Monday’s homework.

Reading

Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.

We have completed the reading of our text, “I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912.” Throughout this week we will continue to learn additional facts regarding the ship and its discovery. Students will complete their journal writings for the five days and complete all Google Slide activities this week. Please note, our Reading ProCore C test will be on Tuesday, and our Math ProCore C test will be on Thursday. We will be reviewing for the tests throughout the week. Please have your child get a good night’s rest each evening before both tests and have a nutritious breakfast the next morning.

Writing

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.1

Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.

Our writing focus will continue to be opinion writing activities within our reading and social studies curriculum. (W2.2) The students will write several opinion pieces in regard to the “unsinkable” Titanic ship.

Math

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.C.7

Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.C.8

Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?

We will continue to review our strategies for adding and subtracting within 1,000 on a daily basis. We will continue to use our place value chart math drawings and to use the written vertical algorithm method to represent the composition when adding and subtracting. We will also review identifying coins, the value of coins, adding and subtracting coins, and adding and subtracting dollar bills ($1, $5, $10, $20).

Science/Social Studies

Our Social Studies standard will be reading information displayed on bar graphs that can be used to compare quantities (SS.13), resources that can be used in various ways (SS.14), and how most people around the world work in jobs in which they produce specific goods and services (SS.15)
