Homework: 1. Nightly reading for 15 to 20 minutes with a parent signature, Monday through Thursday.

2. Write the first grade Red Word Review words 3 x's each and return this homework to school on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Spelling Information for the Week of September 16, 2019 to September 20, 2019

Dear Parents,

We will continue our weekly spelling tests. Each student will have a weekly “Red Word” test and a “Green Word Pattern” test on the same page. I will also grade the spelling sentence that is on the back of the spelling paper.

Red Words

“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out. We will continue to review an additional ten first grade red words.

Green Words

Our “Green Word” pattern for the week continues to be learning about vowel teams. Vowel teams are often introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” The vowel team (digraph) we will be focusing on this week will be “ai.” The vowel team “ai” says long a.

Homework:

Please write each Red Word three times each for homework. Return the completed spelling practice on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, September 20, 2019.
