Reading: The "April Reading Log" is due tomorrow. Students must turn in their reading log tomorrow to receive this month's reward.

Spelling Information for the Week of April 30, 2018 to May 4, 2018

Dear Parents,

HOMEWORK: Write each Red Word 5 times each for Monday’s homework.

Red Words: New – oil, page Review – ghost, part

Red Word Focus

The next two 4th quarter Red Words are oil and page. The students will also continue to review the words ghost and part for a final test on Friday. We will practice all of these words in the classroom throughout the week. Our test will be on Friday, May 4, 2018.

Green Word Focus

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Our Green Word pattern will continue to be Syllable Division Patterns 1, 2, and 3. Please practice the new Green Word pattern words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more Syllable Division Pattern 1, Pattern 2, and/or Pattern 3 words on their Friday spelling test.

Reading Focus

Our reading focus will continue to be the historical topic of the legendary Titanic, the “Unsinkable Ship.” The students will be reading nonfiction, historical fiction, magazines, newspaper articles, and watching videos describing all aspects of its voyage. The students will complete the reading of the realistic fiction text, “I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic.” CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges. Our writing focus will include the topic of the Titanic and the application of adjectives and adverbs within their journal writing activities. (CCSS.ELA.L.2.1.E); CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.3 Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.)

Please note that our spelling test for the week will be on Friday, May 4, 2018, and will include the Red words ghost, part, oil, and page and the Green Word Pattern, Syllable Division Pattern 1, Pattern 2, and/or Pattern 3.
