              • Spelling test tomorrow over the review vowel teams ai, ee, and oa and missed Red Words from last Friday's test.

              • Weekly Focus Information for the Week of May 10, 2021, to May 14, 2021

              • Dear Parents,

              • Spelling:

              • This week, each student will be responsible for his/her missed Red Words from our summative spelling test on Friday, May 7th. Each student will receive an index card containing the missed words. Please use this personal card to study the missed words from the Summative Red Word test for our Friday, May 14th test. We will conclude our year with the review of the vowel teams ee, ai, and oa.

              • Red Words:

              • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.2.3

              • Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

              • Once again, please use the personal card to study the missed words from the Summative Red Word test on Friday, May 7th. The test over these missed words will be on Friday, May 14, 2021.

              • Green Word Focus:

              • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.2.3

              • Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

              • Our Green Word pattern focus for the week will be the review of vowel teams “ee” as in see, “ai” as in paid, and “oa” as in boat. Weekly spelling words will come from the dictation pages brought home in your child’s folder. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more words on their Friday spelling test.

              • Reading:

              • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.3

              • Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.

              • This week we will conclude our study about the sport of baseball and complete the reading of the books, The Hero Two Doors Down, and the Magic Tree House #29, A Big Day for Baseball.

              • Writing:

              • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.4

              • Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.

              • Our writing focus this year will conclude with the writing of several poems that include the poetry elements of alliteration, repetition, rhythm, and rhyme.

              • Math:

              • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.3

              • Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.

              • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.4

              • Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.

              • We will continue our “Count bys____” this week, and we will review measuring to the nearest whole unit in centimeters and inches.

              • We will continue our study of how beavers and worms cause change on Earth.
