Reading: The September Reading Log is due tomorrow, Friday, September 29th.

Spelling: Please note that our final spelling test for all words will be tomorrow, Friday, September 29, 2017. Our second grade red words are friend, talk, and white. The green word patterns to study are our vowel teams oa, ai, and ea.

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words

Red Word Study

Our red words for the week will be the 2^nd grade red words friend, talk, and white. These words will also be on the Friday spelling test. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Study

This week our “Green Word” focus will be the review of our vowel digraphs, oa, ea, and ai, also referred to as “Vowel Teams.” The digraphs are often introduced by simply noting that “When two vowels go waking, the first one does the talking.”

Please practice the vowel digraphs or “vowel team” words that your child brings home on activity pages and dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from these pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “vowel team” words on their Friday, September 29th spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the new reading vocabulary words poke (magic e) and freckles (short e and plural nouns). These words are vocabulary words from our new realistic fiction book, Freckle Juice. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Please note that our final spelling test for all words will be on Friday, September 29, 2017.
