Spelling Information for the Week of March 27, 2017, to March 31, 2017

Dear Parents,

HOMEWORK: Write each Red Word 5 times each and each Vocabulary Word 5 times each for Tuesday’s homework.

Red Words: always, does

Vocabulary Words: Titanic, unsinkable, rescued, iceberg, boarding

Green Word Study

This week our “Green Word” pattern focus will be another pronunciation for the vowel digraph or vowel team ea. The students will learn to pronounce ea, /e/ as in head. Students will be given words that contain this vowel digraph pattern on a daily basis. Please practice this Green Word pattern that your child brings home on activity pages and dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from these pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to fifteen or more “ea” Green Word Pattern words on their Friday, March 31st, spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the vocabulary words Titanic, unsinkable, rescued, iceberg, and boarding. These vocabulary words are from our new text, Tonight on the Titanic. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Red Word Study

Our red words for the week will be always and does. Both of these words will be on our Friday spelling test. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics.

Please note that our final spelling test for all words will be on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp
