Reading: Reading: Reading: Please read for homework and document the name of the book and minutes read on the planner. Please make sure your child is reading 15 to 20 minutes each evening, Monday through Thursday. A parent signature is also required.
Spelling: Spelling test tomorrow, Friday, September 28th. Review the Red Words many, also, and black; Review dictation sheets for the Green Word Pattern, suffix -ed.
Spelling Information for the Week of September 24, 2018 to September 28, 2018
Dear Parents,
Our spelling words this week will include the first three 2nd Quarter Red Words for 2nd grade, many, also, and black, and the Green Word spelling pattern for the suffix –ed.
Red Words
“Red Words” are non-phonetic words that do not follow the rules and cannot be sounded out.
2nd Quarter 2nd Grade Red Words: many, also, black
Green Words
RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
Our “Green Word” focus this week concentrates on the suffix –ed. When something happened some time ago, whether it was a long time ago or “a moment ago,” you usually add -ed to the action or verb. The -ed may be pronounced short i, ( id ), ( d ), or ( t ).
Please practice the –ed words that your child brings home on activity pages and dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from these pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “-ed” words on their spelling test.
Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, September 28, 2018.
