Spelling Information for the Week of October 14, 2019 to October 18, 2019

Dear Parents,

RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

Red Word Focus

This week we will begin our 2nd quarter Red Word study. Our new Red Words will be many, also, and black. We will review these words for two weeks. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words, and they do not follow the rules of phonics.

Green Word Pattern Focus

Our “Green Word Pattern” focus this week will be a review of the first quarter green word patterns, (vowel teams - ea, oa, ai), –nk , and –ng. Please review the dictation pages and activities that have been covered over the past few weeks in regard to the Green Word patterns. Students will need to apply this information to ten spelling words that will be given on the summative Green Word pattern test on Friday, October 18, 2019. Please also study the Red Words many, also, and black.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY RL.2.5

Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.

We will continue to read from the selections, Mercy Watson Takes a Ride, Mercy Watson in Disguise, and Leroy Ninker Saddles Up, within our Guided Reading groups. We will take a comprehension test and a vocabulary test over the selections at the end of the week.

Homework:

Please write each Red Word five times each for homework. Return the completed spelling practice on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Please note that this week’s final spelling test will be on Friday, October 18, 2019.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp, Mr. Inman
