Spelling Information for the Week of December 10, 2018 to December 14, 2018
Dear Parents,
HOMEWORK: Write each 4th Quarter Red Word 10 times each for Monday’s homework.
Red Words: almost, does, eight
Red Word Focus
Our 4th quarter Red Words are almost, does, and eight. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words, and they do not follow the rules of phonics. Each student must receive a 100 percent on these three second grade red words for two weeks in a row to show mastery and receive a final grade.
Green Word Focus
RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be the review of “Open/Closed Syllables” and “Magic e.” Students will be given words that contain the “Magic e” pattern and “Open/Closed one syllable words.” Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more “magic e” words and “open/closed one syllable words” on their Friday spelling test.
Please note that our final spelling test for this week will be on Friday, December 14, 2018, and will include the Red Words almost, does, and eight and “magic e and open/closed one syllable words from dictation.
