Spelling Information for the Week of December 17, 2018 to December 20, 2018
Dear Parents,
HOMEWORK: Write each 4th Quarter Red Word Review word 10 times each for Monday’s homework.
Red Words: almost, does, eight
Red Word Focus
Please review our 4th quarter Red Words, almost, does, and eight, once again for a spelling test this week on Thursday, December 20, 2018. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words, and they do not follow the rules of phonics. Each student must receive a 100 percent on these three second grade red words for two weeks in a row to show mastery and receive a final grade.
Green Word Focus
RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
Our “Green Word” pattern/focus for the week will be the review of ph (phone), ck (black), ee (tree), oo (zoo), oo (good), ew (few, grew), ay (play), oe (toe), and ou (cloud). Students will be given a short list of words that contain all of these Green Word patterns from the 2nd quarter. Please practice these words as your child brings them home on dictation pages. Weekly spelling words may come from the dictation pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to ten or more of the “2nd Quarter Green Word Patterns” on their Thursday, December 20, 2018, spelling test.
Please note that our final spelling test for this week will be on Thursday, December 20, 2018, and will include the Red Words almost, does, and eight and 2nd Quarter Green Word pattern words from dictation.
