Information for the Week of April 18, 2017, to April 21, 2017

Dear Parents,

Green Word Study

This week we will continue our “Green Word” pattern focus on the “Consonant-le Endingsble, -fle, -tle, -dle, -gle, -kle, -ple, and –zle. To facilitate the decoding of a word, these common endings can be cut off. Students will be given specific words that contain several of these endings for this week and next week. Please practice these words with the Consonant –le ending Green Word pattern as your child brings home activity pages and dictation pages. Weekly spelling words will come from these pages. Students will be expected to apply all classroom information to fifteen or more “Consonant-le Endings” Green Word Pattern words on their Friday, April 21st, spelling test.

Vocabulary Study

Our spelling test will also include the vocabulary words prairie, ford, brindled, game, and spider. These vocabulary words are from our new selection, Little House on the Prairie. We will continue to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. RL.2.7

Red Word Study

Our new red words for the week will be sure and ghost. Our review red words will be part and floor. All of these words will be on our Friday spelling test. Please remember that these words are non-decodable words and do not follow the rules of phonics. Please note that our final spelling test for all words will be on Friday, April 21, 2017.

Thank you,

Mrs. Arp
