Caulry Ladies U-14 B County Final Replay

U -14 B County Final Replay Caulry 2-11 v The Downs 4-5, Kilbeggan, Sunday 16th October 2016 @ 4pm.

Caulry girls travelled to Kilbeggan on Sunday last for the replay of their B County Final. It had rained heavily that morning but dried up in time for the throw in at 4pm. The pitch was full of puddles but that did not dampen the spirits of our girls.

The first ten minutes of the game were spent settling in, finding their feet and avoiding puddles. The Downs failed to score due to the hard work of our goalie Emma, the back line, Jasmine, Alanna and Erin. Great play by Aine and Ruth got the ball into the forwards and had Caulry scoring 3 fabulous points.

Amy, Geraldine and Rachel did tremendous work in getting the ball up the pitch, there were some errors made and we dropped our guard a bit giving The Downs the opportunity to even the score, our girls didn't give up though and kept playing simple football but doing it well, at the end of the first half The Downs were winning 2-4 v Caulry 0-6.

At the start of the second half, the girls came out ready for action. They dominated the second half evening the score within ten minutes. With ten minutes left in the game Caulry were winning by a point, plenty of teamwork from all the forwards, Lucy, Ava, Megan, Katie, Caoimhe and Tamara gave Caulry a 5 point lead when The Downs scored 2 goals in quick succession, with a minute to go Katie scored a lovely point, evening up the game again.

Everyone expected extra time to be played so stayed where they were, no one running onto the pitch. Then the referee announced that The Downs had won by a point, a lot of people pointed out the score was not correct, but it was not to be. A very disappointing decision at the end of a fantastic game of football, our girls may not have the cup in their hands but can hold their heads high knowing that they played a great game of football.
