Exams Wishes

With many of our players starting the Leaving and Junior cert exams this week, we wish them lots of wisdom and knowledge and every good wish for success. We also look forward to seeing them enthusiastically return to action on completion of this important chapter in their lives.

Division 4 ACFL

Caulry 4-9

Multyfarnham 3-11

Caulry and Multyfarnham served up an exciting encounter in the local park on Friday evening last for their final Division 4 ACFL fixture.

Both teams were slow to settle and were guilty of some early misses. The opposition opened the scoring tally with a pointed-free on the 9^th minute. Our lads soon followed suit as Cialan Dollard kicked over a fine score. The visitors attacked well and rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 11^th minute. Caulry kicked the next two scores of the game to reduce the deficit with Ernie Buckley and Peter Smyth on target. However, the opposition responded well, kicking an unanswered 0-3 to leave four points the margin by the 20^th minute. Good work from Dollard enabled Smyth to hit the back of the opposition’s net. Conor McCormack pointed to leave it level pegging. However, late points from both sides left Caulry trailing by the narrowest of margins at the break on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-5.

The homeside hit the ground running in the second half with a converted-penalty from Smyth. Caulry stretched their lead with two pointed-frees from Smyth and McCormack. However, the opposition drove hard and drew level on the 34^th minute with an unanswered 1-1. Multyfarnham kicked the next two scores of the game to take the lead. However, this lead was shortly lived after a superb pass from Smyth found Harry Hughes who sent the ball to the back of the opposition’s net. Points from Eoghan Grennan and Stephen Brookes left three points between the sides by the 53^rd minute. However, the men in maroon showed a never-say-die attitude as they levelled proceedings for a fifth time with another well-taken goal. Michael Carroll brought off some good saves in goal. When Multyfarnham tapped over two fines scores late in the game it looked as though they had done enough to win. However, our lads dug deep as a Peter Smyth goal put Caulry’s noses in front by the 30^th minute. Brookes defended well in the closing stages of the game as Caulry escaped with the win on a scoreline of 4-9 to 3-11.

With this win, Caulry finish with 6 points, securing their place in the Division 4 ACFL for next year.
