Division 1 ACFL

Caulry 1-9

Mullingar Shamrocks 1-11

Caulry and Mullingar Shamrocks served up an entertaining encounter on Sunday morning last in their latest Division 1 ACFL fixture as the homeside went down by the narrowest of margins to a strong opposition.

Mullingar hit the ground running with a point in the opening 60 seconds. Caulry soon took the lead with two pointed-frees from Conor McCormack. A great ball from Jack O’Kelly Lynch was tapped over the bar by Mark Fitzpatrick on the 7^th minute. A good intercept from Damien Dolan and superb defending from Eoin Fox allowed McCormack to stretch the homeside’s lead. Mullingar Shamrocks soon found their feet with five points in quick succession to leave two points between the sides on the quarter hour mark. Conor Dolan and Declan Donohoe had superb games in defence while points from McCormack and Eoin Donohoe left Caulry trailing 0-6 to 0-7 at the halftime whistle.

On the resumption, the opposition stretched their lead with three quick points. A point from Alan Daly narrowed the margins between the sides. However, the all-important score of the match came as Mullingar Shamrocks rattled the back of the Caulry net. Great fielding from Damien Dolan and Stephen Connolly allowed Daly to point again. Ernie Buckley defended well and a superb ball from Damien Dolan allowed Daly to hit the back of the oppositions net to leave just three points between the sides. Mullingar Shamrocks proved to be the hungrier side and a pointed-free from McCormack late in the game left the scoreboard reading 1-11 to 1-9.
