St Loman’s Mullingar 5-18
Caulry went down at home to St Loman’s on a wet and windy Friday evening last in this latest league fixture. The first half was very keenly contested with Caulry having slightly the better of the play. However, the concession of two goals near the interval changed the complexion of the game and left the home side chasing the game thereafter. With the wind rising, the visitors gradually built on the scoreline to run out comfortable winners in the finish. Despite this, Caulry had good and game performances especially from Aaron Fallon, Eoin Shortall, Dylan Lowry, Darcy Lawless, and with Shane Cleary right back to his best with an excellent all round display. Meanwhile, with the junior cert students, concentrating on the books for the next while, it’s back to the training field to prepare for the championship for the others.

Caulry and Shannon Gaels served up an entertaining contest at home on Thursday evening last. The game was end to end all through, with visitors ability to take their scores the vital difference between the sides. With Thomas Dunning dictating play and Roan Sweeney and Alan Malynn looking very dangerous in attack, it was evenly poised at the break six points to four for the visitors and with either side ruing some gilt edge chances to add to their tally. Some positional changes by Caulry, went clearly against them and they went out of the game as a result early in the second half. By the time that they were reversed, they were too far behind to claw their way back and no doubt a lesson learned by the management for future engagements. There were good performances throughout on both sides, with many of the respective Westmeath Under 14 and 13 players in opposition. James Clavin was a very assured goalkeeper, with Luke Hamilton, Glen Carolan, Tom Cloonan and Rory Mullins superb in defence duties, while Luke Buckley, and the aforementioned Thomas Dunning, Roan Sweeney, Alan Malynn best further afield.

Well done to the newest and youngest batch of players to be selected to represent their county, with Luke Buckley, James Carey, Jamie Conlon, Olan Healy, Rory Mullins and Roan Sweeney on the latest Westmeath Under 13 squad to be announced. They all made an excellent debut in a recent successful trip to Blessington to play Wicklow. On Saturday last, the Westmeath Under 14 team travelled to the Wicklow hills and the Ballinakill centre of Excellence to take on Wicklow, Louth and Limerick in a National blitz. Caulry players, James Clavin, Daniel Buckley and Thomas Dunning all gave top class displays in another successful day for the county underage. Finally, the Caulry players Darren Browne, Sean Fox and Colin Murphy excelled with the Westmeath Under 15s in their blitz with Offaly and Laois in Clara last Saturday. Neil Clinton, unfortunately missed out due to illness on the day. Congratulations to all our young players who are always delighted to represent their county and we look forward to many years in the maroon and white.
