Sympathies

The club extends it’s deepest sympathies to the family of the late Matt Conlon. Matt was a dedicated Caulry clubman and for many years was very much involved in the running of the club as he served as chairman and secretary. Matt also served as a selector for the Westmeath Junior team down through the years and was a referee for a number of years. Matt will forever be remembered for playing full-back on the 1957 Junior Championship winning team. His honours also include the 1956 and 1957 Junior Leagues. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Midland Under 13 League

Caulry 12-12

Rhode 0-4

Caulry U13 played host to Rhode on Saturday afternoon last in their first round of the Midland U13 League and ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 12-12 to 0-4.

Caulry were first to get off the mark with a goal from Roan Sweeney. After some great combined teamwork from Alan Malynn, Rory Casey, Tom Cloonan and Josh Jocher, Caulry went six points ahead with Senan Baker, Luke Buckley and Olan Healy all on target. The homeside rallied on with a further 6-3 before the interval.

On the resumption, the Caulry lads added to their lead. Two quick scores for Rhode narrowed the deficit. However, the defence worked well and late goals from Luke Buckley and James Buckley meant the scoreboard read 12-12 to 0-4 at the final whistle. Caulry were served well by Rory Mullins and Ciaran Gaynor in defence, while Alan Malynn and Shane Lawless took their scores well in attack.

Caulry 3-11

Maryland 3-13

Caulry and Maryland served up an exciting encounter in the local park on Saturday evening last in their last round of the Division 1 ACFL.

Caulry hit the ground running with two fine scored from Robbie Hickey and Eoin Fox. Maryland responded with an unanswered 2-1 to lead by five points by the 7^th minute. A superb pass from Emmet Nally resulted in Sean Doyle rattling the back of the Maryland net. The teams traded scores, with Fox scoring for the homeside. A great interception from Hickey and a fine pass from Conor McCormack enabled David Brookes to point on the 24^th minute. Maryland kicked the next score of the game to level proceedings. A superb point from a line-ball by Alan Daly left Caulry trailing by one point at the interval, on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2-6.

Ben Kenny pointed early in the second half to narrow the deficit. Nally and Hickey added to the scoring tally after great fielding form Fox. Great defending Eoin Donohoe allowed Caulry to edge in front with points from Hickey and Fox. Maryland defended strong and a goal on the 54^th minute left one point between the sides. Hickey tapped the ball into the opposition’s net late in the second half. However, an unanswered 0-3 meant Maryland had two points to spare at the final whistle on a scoreline for 3-13 to 3-11.
