Sponsor Our Sod Fundraiser

Work is planned to commence next month on the development of a state of the art all-weather playing pitch and training area on the recently purchased 5 acres of land adjoining the current Caulry playing facilities. This project will be completed with the aid of a recently acquired Sports Council Grant coupled with sponsorship monies to be raised by the Caulry Club itself. To this end the club are launching a 'Sponsor Our Sod' fundraiser initiative, whereupon present and former club members, players, supporters and friends of the club are invited to sponsor a sod on the new playing pitch for €50 and in return all sponsors will have their names permanently displayed and celebrated on a special plaque to be erected on the club grounds. All sponsors will also be entered into a special draw with excellent prizes to be won which will take place at a special club function to be held in Egans, Mount Temple on June 25th next. Leinster League Under 16 Division 1 Semi-Final

Caulry 2-5

St Mary’s Ardee 3-13

Caulry’s journey in the Leinster League Division 1 came to a disappointing end in our local pitch, when going down to a well drilled visiting Ardee side. However, the final score line hardly does justice to the efforts of the Caulry outfit whose forces and preparation were severely hampered prior to the throw in. Shorn through injury of the influential Matthew Nally and Jack Sheehan, they were furthered injury depleted when after getting a foothold in the second half, Shane Cleary had to be stretched off with a dislocated knee. Matters were further complicated by the majority of those needed for duty arriving either late or just prior to match time from other earlier matches with county and soccer.

This in no way is meant to distract from a fine Ardee team, who were overall the better team on the day, but when you get to this level and stage of a Leinster competition, your preparations need to be spot on. Not surprising, the Caulry lads were heavy laden and lethargic in the opening half and trailed 2-8 to 0-3 at interval. However, the second half was a completely different matter as the Caulry lads took the game to their opponents and were back to within four points when Shane suffered his unfortunate injury and the Louth boys finished with a last second goal to further undermine the valiant efforts of the home side. For Caulry, James Clavin proved an excellent goalkeeper once again. Glenn Carolan, Eoin Shortall, Dylan Lowry displayed good defensive qualities. The excellent trio of Sean Fox, Colin Murphy and Neil Clinton were superb in both their quality of play and leadership, while Darcy Lawless and Daniel Buckley were best further afield.

Despite the result, this has been an exciting and rewarding adventure for our team and one that will surely help their development going forward.

Division 4 ACFL

Caulry 0-13

CFCW 3-14

Caulry suffered their second consecutive defeat in this year’s Division 4 ACFL as they went down to a strong opposition on Sunday morning last.

CFCW raced out of the tracks and scored an unanswered 2-1 within the opening five minutes. Caulry got off the mark with a point from Conor McCormack. The opposition dominated proceedings as they hit the back of the Caulry net for a third time on the 9^th minute. CFCW pushed on and scored three unanswered points. Our lads worked hard and points from Stephen Brookes and McCormack narrowed the deficit. The teams traded scores and further points from Paddy Sleator and McCormack left Caulry trailing 3-6 to 0-6 at the interval.

The second half continued in the same vain. Some good fielding from Peter Smyth allowed Eoin Donohoe to add to the scoring tally. The game went on a point-for-point basis with McCormack and Stephen Connolly on target. A point for CFCW stretched their lead with five minutes remaining. Late points from Tom Doyle, Brookes and Sleator meant CFCW ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-13.
