Club membership is now due for payment and can be paid to the club registrars or any committee member. There will also be a club Registration and Membership evening this Wednesday, March 13th at 7:30pm to 9:30pm in the clubhouse.

Schools’ Football

Well done to the Caulry girls Ruth Martin, Aine Gaynor, Megan Clinton and Emma Quigley and the rest of their MCS teammates who won their All-Ireland semi-final recently and the very best of luck in the final.

U16 League

Caulry 4-13

Cill Oige 0-2

Caulry travelled up to Castledaly last Saturday to play Cill Oige in their second league game of the season.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Caulry took an early lead with two frees from the boot of Alan Malynn. Then following some great defending Caulry raced up the field for Shane Lawless to fire in Caulry’s first goal. Caulry’s forwards were pushing up on their men and putting pressure on the Cill Oige back line and this was rewarded with goals for Malynn, Lawless and Adam Dunning. The back line were well on top and were giving in some great balls and making great runs to help out the forwards. Caulry added more points to our tally with Senan Baker, Aaron Murray, Lawless, Dunning, Malynn and a beauty from wing back Adam Doyle . Caulry led 4-8 to 0-1 point at half time.

In the second half Caulry played against the breeze and added an early point from a free from Malynn. Aaron Murray added another from midfield along with another from his playing partner Baker. Dunning added another from a free followed by another from Baker. Caulry ran out easy winners in the end on a score line of 4-13 to 0-2. Caulry backline played very well on the day to limit the opposition to two points with Tiarnan o’Donovan the stand out player in the back line. Our midfield played well also and are forming a nice partnership and this meant our forwards got plenty of ball. Our half forwards of James Buckley, Malynn, and Tadgh Baker cleaned up plenty of breaking ball which meant our inside line of Dunning, Lawless and Joey Berry got plenty of ball. With no game next weekend it’s back to the park for training as we will have harder games to come but very well done to everyone on a good performance.

Division 4 ACFL

Caulry 3-9

Ballinagore 0-7

Our Division 4 ACFL second round game turned out to be a game of two halves as our lads played host to Ballinagore on Saturday evening last.

Both teams were slow to settle with good defending from the two sides seeing the teams exchange a number of early wides. Ballinagore then opened the scoring tally on the 13^th minute with their effort from play. The opposition doubled the deficit as our lads missed another two scoring chances. Stephen Connolly dealt well with early threats as a point from Paddy Sleator got Caulry off the mark on the 23^rd minute. However, it was the opposition who played the better football of the half as two further points saw them lead 0-5 to 0-1 at the break.

Ballinagore were the first to attack in the second half as Conor Dolan brought off a vital interception to deny the opposition a goal. Killian Healy was fouled at the other end of the field and substitute Colin Murphy neatly tapped over the resulting free. Loughlin Casey then kicked the next score of the game after combining nicely with Murphy and Sleator. Declan Donohoe and Ciaran Allen impressed in defence as another free from Murphy left one between the sides. The teams then exchanged points with Adam Donoghue adding a score for Caulry. Sleator then sent a high ball into the top left-hand corner of the Ballinagore net to put Caulry in front by the 50^th minute. The teams traded another point each, with Thomas Dunning on target. Two well-taken goals from the boot of Gary Flanagan really put Caulry in the driving seat with 5 minutes remaining. Three late points from Sleator, Murphy and Donoghue enabled Caulry to run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-9 to 0-7.

Caulry 0-7

Milltown 3-7

Our intermediate team made the journey to Milltown on a blustery Sunday morning last for their second game of the Division 2 ACFL.

Playing with a strong breeze on their backs, Milltown raced into an early lead with a well-taken goal. Our forwards struggled to gauge the wind with a number of attempts falling short of the target or trailing off wide. The opposition tagged on two points before a fine-kick from Colin Murphy was helped over the bar by the Milltown goalie on the 14^th minute. Damien Dolan made a burst forward and was fouled setting McCormack up for his first score of the game. Stephen Connolly done enough to deflect a Milltown shot on goal soon after as the Caulry forwards still struggled up front. Milltown then registered the next two scores of the game, one converted-free and another a fisted effort which sailed over the bar. A late McCormack free saw our lads trail 1-4 to 0-3 at the halftime whistle.

The opposition hit the ground running again in the second half with a fine point inside the opening 60 seconds. Milltown punched holes in the Caulry defence with another shot on goal trailing out to the side and wide. However, the opposition attacked the Caulry kick-out and won a free which settled them back into the game. Some nice play from Alan Daly set Colin Murphy up for his second point of the game. Murphy then got his hattrick of points on the 43^rd minute, leaving four points between the sides. However, our lads were then dealt a double-blow as Milltown found the net for a second time and Fox was carded, forcing him to retreat to the line. Being down to 13 men for much of the second half, our lads struggling to set up attacking play as the opposition tagged on another point. McCormack drew one back on the 55^th minute before another Milltown goal cushioned their lead. The opposition then began running down the clock as Murphy registered the final score of the game to leave the scoreboard reading 3-7 to 0-7 at the fulltime whistle.
