U10 Larry Nugent Tournament

Last Saturday morning was a busy morning for our U10 squad as they played host to a series of local teams for the annual Larry Nugent Tournament. The opposition was provided by Moate All Whites, Milmore, Ballymahon, Maryland/Tang and Castledaly.

Proceedings began at 11am with each team battling hard in the group stages to see who would advance to the finals. After some good, exciting games, the final pairings were as follows:

• Plate Final: Castledaly v Ballymahon

• Shield Final: Caulry v Maryland/Tan

• Cup Final: Moate v Milmore

The winning teams of Ballymahon, Caulry and Moate and the runners-up were then presented their medals by Larry Nugent Jnr. on behalf of the Nugent family.

A huge thanks to all the teams and management who participated on the day. Many thanks also to everyone involved in organising this successful day.

Shield Final

Our U10 boys qualified for the Shield Final after the group stages of the Larry Nugent Tournament. The boys played very well together as a team. Scores from Aaron Murphy and Eoin Murphy allowed the Caulry boys to build up a commanding lead early in the game. Our defence also held strong with Brian Doyle and Darragh Shortall having good games. Cian Lawless also brought off some good saves in goals when put under pressure to ensure Caulry ran out winners.

Well done to the boys and their management team.

Minor A Championship Semi-Final

Shandonagh 1-13

Our minors bowed out of this year’s MFC as they went down to a good Shandonagh side on Saturday evening last in Ballynacargy.

Caulry raced out of the tracks with a fine point from Cialan Dollard after some good play from Conor McCormack. A point from Sean Clinton doubled the margins between the sides. However, the opposition soon found their feet with 0-4 in quick succession. Caulry had a missed goal opportunity on the 9^th minute as Shandonagh pointed to stretch their lead. Charlie Parker defended well as a point from Clinton kept the scoreboard ticking over. Colin Murphy fielded well as a pointed-free from Jack Bradbury Hughes left just two points the margin at the halftime whistle.

On the resumption, Shandonagh began to push on with four quick scores. McCormack drew one back with a fine point from play. However, the opposition worked hard and rattled the back of the Caulry net to leave eight points between the sides by the 40^th minute. Sean Fox had an impressive display as points from McCormack and Cialan Dollard reduced the deficit. McCormack converted a penalty on the 52^nd minute to leave just four points between the sides. The teams traded scores with McCormack on target for Caulry. Ultimately, our lads chased the deficit throughout as a late point from Clinton ensured Shandonagh the win on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-9.
