Intermediate Championship

Caulry 2-10

Mullingar Shamrocks 1-7

Caulry got off to a winning start in the first round of this year Intermediate Championship at Cusack Park Mullingar on Saturday evening last. Caulry hit the ground running and were 2-2 to 0-1 up after ten minutes. However they seemed to sit back and allow the Town side back into the contest and narrow the gap to 3 points coming into the closing stages, before we pulled away again.

We will need a more consistent display for the stiffer challenges ahead. We now have a five week interval until our next championship encounter against St Mary’s Rochfortsbridge and plenty of time to iron out any flaws. Joe McMahon was a safe and reliable keeper with some timely and important interventions. Kevin Maguire, Damian Dolan and Declan Donoghue were best in defence. Alan Fitzpatrick had some good moments at centrefield, but the attack struggled due to a slow laboured build up, Thankfully, Peter Smyth brought his shooting boots and posted 1-8 together with an all-round impressive display.

Junior Football Championship

Caulry 3-14

Killucan 1-13

Caulry opened this year's Junior Championship campaign with a well earned seven point win over senior club Killucan's second team last Thursday evening in Killucan. With the help of two long range opportunist goals by Alan Carroll, a well taken goal by Philip Dully, and having to contend with some agressive tackling by Killucan, Caulry went in at the break leading by six points on a scoreline of Caulry 3-4 Killucan 0-7. In the second half Caulry's football, particularly in the third quarter was much more fluent with some nice combined team work resulting in some fine points from play by Robbie Ryan. A determined Killucan rally in the final ten minutes was not enough as the Caulry defence held tight and ran out comfortable winners with seven points to spare.

Aidan Murphy, Jack O'Kelly-Lynch and Keith Mc Menamin were impressive for Caulry in defence. Micky Fitzpatrick had a fine game at mid-field and Alan Carroll, Robbie Ryan,Philip Dully and Ben Kenny with some fine forward play got the all important scores.

Under 14 League

Caulry 5-4

Maryland/Tang 5-13

Following their exceptionally good display in the league encounter on the previous Thursday, our lads were very flat on a wet miserable Monday week last at home against the Maryland/ Tang combination. The introduction of Rory Mullins gave the backline a more secure look with a fine display, while the further introduction of Roan Sweeney, threatened a major revival with a master class in goal scoring. Jack Sheehan and Colin Murphy were others who performed well and we now look forward to the championship draw having finished our league programme.

Under 12 League

Athlone were the visitors for the latest Under 12 League fixture on Wednesday evening last. Despite having played in the Marita Stone School Blitz earlier in the day, our lads summoned the energy to put in another good performance. Some excellent football was played by both clubs and each side came away with a victory each. Caulry had some very impressive displays in particular, by Olan Healy, Alan Malynn and Conor Paul.

Under-12 Ladies

Caulry u12 girls played host last Thursday evening to Mullingar Shamrocks in their second game of phase 2 of the league. we got off to a great start with some strong scoring by Lucy Evans, Ruth Martin and Zara Mullarney. Nine minutes into the game and one of our caulry girls sustained an injury, unsure of the severity of it an ambulance was called. Fortunately the ambulance crew checked Alanna out thoroughly and gave her the all clear. The game restarted and once again Caulry regained control and finished the first half well ahead 3-2 to 0-1. A great game of football followed in the second half with Mullingar Shamrocks coming back strong and scoring 2-2. A couple of lovely points by Zara Mullarney in the 2nd half secured a win for Caulry with the final score 3-4 to 2-2. Well done to each and everyone of the girls that played in this game they showed great determination and skill.
