Many thanks to J Egan for his continued support and generosity.
Intermediate Championship Fixture
Our lads will battle it out against Milltown for Round 4 of this year’s championship on Saturday evening next in Athlone. The most recent championship clash between the sides was last year’s group-stages game where our lads came out of top on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-16. The Caulry lads will be hoping to push on from last week’s win over Milltownpass and pick up their second win of the campaign. Kick-off is at 5:45pm and all supporters are asked to get behind the lads.
Good luck to the team and management.
Minor Championship
Caulry 4-7
Maryland/Tang 0-17
Our minor lads got off to a winning start in their opening championship game on Wednesday evening last when they made the journey to Tang.
It was Maryland/Tang who were first to get off the mark as they converted an early free. A wide from either side preceded our first score of the game which game courtesy of Senan Baker after a surge forward from Olan Healy. Both sides then missed goal opportunities before two Maryland/Tang points edged them in front. Alan Malynn drew one back with his effort on the 9th minute. A fine display of combined teamwork from our lads resulted in a goal, with Conor McKnight getting in the final touch to help the ball into the Maryland/Tang net. Two further points from Malynn stretched our lead to four. However, the Maryland/Tang lads worked hard and chipped away at the deficit with two fine points from short well-worked frees. Thomas Dunning’s long-range effort then sailed over the crossbar before a series of passes through Shane Lawless and McKnight found James Buckley who rattled the back of the net. Two points amongst a smattering of wides were shared before the break to leave Caulry in front on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-7.
Two quick-fire points got the Maryland/Tang boys motoring soon after the restart. Adam Donoghue set Lawless up for a point before three unanswered Maryland/Tang points levelled the match. Our boys struggled against the breeze as Maryland/Tang made the most of conditions with two more points putting their noses in front. Malynn and Healy showed great knowledge and guile as they worked a quick free into Baker who picked his spot and riffled the top left corner of the opposition’s net. However, Maryland/Tang dug deep and responded well with two points giving them a dangerous lead of one with just five minutes remaining. Our lads must be praised for their never-say-die attitude as despite a number of attempts falling wide of the target, the Caulry boys never gave up with Donoghue eventually hitting the back of the net deep into injury-time which secure Caulry the win.

JFC Round 1
Caulry 1-5
Athlone 4-15
Our juniors made a start to their championship campaign on Friday evening last when they host Athlone in the park.
Both sides were slow to settle and guilty of missing early scoring opportunities before Athlone struck for the game’s opening goal on the 8th minute. A point soon after put the visitors four points the good as some more Caulry attempts fell wide of the target. Hugh Allen then got Caulry off the mark with his converted-free on the 11th minute. However, Athlone soon restored their lead as they attacked the next two kickouts and slotted over two more points from play. The Athlone dominance at midfield continued to pay dividends as they racked up another 1-1 before our lads registered their second score of the game, this from the boot of Anthony Allen after a good build of play. The teams then traded frees on the 19th and 21st minutes as Athlone finished the stronger side, adding five points to lead 2-10 to 0-3 at the halftime whistle.
Allen opened the second half’s scoring account with another placed ball. The Athlone goalie then dealt well with a Caulry threat with Sylvester Coughlan eventually having to settle for a point. Athlone kicked the next two points of the game as our lads struggled to put scores on the board. Michael McMahon was unlucky after a rebound from an initial good save rolled into the back of the Caulry net to stretch the margins between the sides. The Athlone defence diffused the Caulry attacks as they tagged on another point on the 50th minute. Liam Malynn sent a high ball in over the Athlone keeper’s head and into the back of the net soon after. However, the margins proved to large as late scores for Athlone secured them a comfortable win on a scoreline of 4-15 to 1-5.
Team & Scorers: Michael McMahon, Ciaran Allen, Brian Mullarney, Glen Carolan, Dylan Lowry, Conor Dolan, Luke Hamilton, Ernie Buckley, Anthony Allen (0-1), Adam Mullins, Liam Malynn (1-1), Sylvester Coughlan (0-1), Hugh Allen (0-2, 2f), James Egan, Will Buckley

IFC Round 3
Caulry 3-11
Milltownpass 2-8
After a sluggish start to the championship, our intermediate lads were hungry for a win when they made the journey to Hogan Park on Saturday evening last for their Round 3 clash against Milltownpass.
In showery conditions, it was our lads who opened the tally of wides with an initial placed-ball from Conor McCormack falling wide of the target. A good intercept from Emmet Nally proved integral to our opening score as the ball was sent in to Andy O’Sullivan who hit the back of the Milltownpass net and set the tone for the game. Our lads dug deep from the offset and were patient in their build-up of play as another goal opportunity arose. This from the hard work of Harry Hughes and Sean Clinton who combined and set Paddy Sleator up which he neatly finished. Milltownpass then shot a wide at the other end of the field as a short-range free from McCormack put seven between the sides. Clinton and Eoin Shortall impressed in the Caulry backline as the ball was worked up the field and slotted over the bar by Colin Murphy. Milltownpass then opened their scoring account with a fine long-range point on the 12th minute. However, the men in red were not going to lie down as Cillian Nagle diffused the Milltownpass threat when tested by dropping ‘45’s. Two wides from our lads preceded the third goal of the game, this from the boot of Murphy on the 22nd minute. Milltownpass kicked the next point, which was soon cancelled out by Murphy after a fine cross-field ball from Adam Donoghue. Eoin Fox worked tirelessly in defence as the opposition converted a short-range free on the 28th minute to leave the scoreboard reading 3-3 to 0-3 at the break.
The Caulry lads raced out of the tracks in the second half as Kevin Maguire found Hughes who widened the gap to ten. Milltownpass soon drew this one back with a converted-free. The Milltownpass men then punished Caulry as they raced up the field and pointed on the 35th minute. McCormack converted two frees before the opposition put their stamp on the game as they worked the ball up the field and rattled the back of the Caulry net. Nally responded well, winning the kickout and putting his name on the score sheet on the 44th minute. Maguire then combined with McCormack, made space and pointed soon after. The teams traded points on the 47th and 48th minutes before a number of scoring chances for both sides fell wide of the target. Maguire tore forward again, this time finding Hughes who added his second score of the game. Milltownpass then got a glimmer of hope on the 56th minute as they were awarded a penalty in which they netted. Two further points for the men in back left five between the sides. Murphy then pointed late in the game ensuring our lads picked up this vital win on a scoreline of 3-11 to 2-8.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Eoin Shortall, Eoin Fox, Sean Clinton, Loughlin Casey, Kevin Maguire (0-1), Harry Hughes (0-2), Stephen Connolly, Neil Clinton, Emmet Nally (0-1), Conor McCormack (0-4, 3f), Colin Murphy (1-3), Adam Donoghue, Paddy Sleator (1-0), Andy O’Sullivan (1-0)
