Division 2 ACFL

Caulry 1-14

Tubberclair 3-10

Caulry and Tubberclair served up an exciting encounter in the local park on Tuesday evening last in our fifth game of this year’s Division 2 ACFL.

Our lads burst out of the tracks with a well-taken goal from Kevin Maguire inside the opening 20 seconds. Despite having a lot of the possession, our lads failed to push on as Tubberclair were first to point on the 6^th minute. A foul on Damien Dolan set Conor McCormack up for his first score of the game as he tapped over the resulting free. McCormack then registered his first point from play inside the same minute to leave four points between the sides. However, the Tubberclair lads tried hard and halved the deficit with two fine points from play. Some great combined teamwork from Ben Kenny and McCormack set Dolan up for a point on the 13^th minute. Kenny showed well as Caulry rattled off a number of wides. The teams then traded points with Kenny on target for Caulry. Tubberclair drew level on the 27^th minute as they rallied up the field and riffled the back of the Caulry net. A late converted-free from McCormack edged Caulry in front at the interval on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-4.

Two more converted-frees from McCormack stretched our lads to three early in the half. Despite some good defending from Declan Donohoe, the opposition levelled proceedings with their second goal of the evening on the 35^th minute. The game then went on a point-for-point basis with McCormack and Alan Daly adding to the scoring tally. Some fine fielding from our lads enabled John Maguire to put Caulry’s noses in front on the 41^st minute. Both sides were guilty of missing scoring opportunities as Dolan impressed in defence. Tubberclair drew level once again with a point on the 47^th minute. The teams then traded points with Daly pointing a free for Caulry. Two kick Tubberclair points put the visitors in front with just five minutes remaining. Caulry dug deep as points from Dolan and Jack O’Kelly Lynch after good work from Harry Hughes left the score level-pegging. Tubberclair went on the attack and were awarded a controversial goal to put them in front. A pointed-free from McCormack deep into injury-time meant Tubberclair escaped with the win on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-14.

U14 League

Caulry 0-5

Kilbeggan/Joseph’s 7-10

Our U14 boys suffered another defeat in this year’s league when they played host to a strong Kilbeggan/Joseph’s side on Thursday evening last.

Our boys started well with a pointed-free from Paul Hogan. Andrew Stuart Trainor then slotted over a fine point from play. The opposition soon followed suit with their first score coming on the 3rd minute. Aaron Murphy defended well as another converted-free from Paul Hogan left two between the sides again. Kilbeggan/Joseph’s then took the lead for the first time in the game on the 9th minute as they rattled the back of the Caulry net. However, this lead was short lived as Stuart Trainor drew level with another pointed-free. Despite some good work from Harry Stuart Trainor and Tiarnan O’Donovan, the opposition began to take charge of proceedings as they added an unanswered 2-3 before the interval.

The second half followed in much the same vein with Kilbeggan/Joseph’s dominating throughout. Two quick point for the opposition early in the second half stretched their lead. Stuart Trainor drew one back with this effort on the 39th minute. Ultimately, the opposition proved too strong for our lads as they rallied on, scoring an unanswered 4-4 to ensure them a comfortable win on a scoreline of 7-10 to 0-5.

Division 4 ACFL

Caulry 0-12

Moate 2-14

Our juniors suffered their second defeat in their third game in this year’s Division 4 ACFL when they made the short journey to Moate on Friday evening last.

Our lads raced out of the tracks with a fine point from Anthony Allen after a good pass from Harry Hughes. Peter Smyth then pointed as Moate struggled to get off the mark. Some great fielding from Stephen Connolly and Eoghan Grennan set Smyth up for his second point of the game on the 5^th minute. The opposition registered their first point of the game with a converted-free. Declan Donohoe and Brain Mullarney defended well as Connolly stretched our lead to three. The teams then traded two points each with Ben Kenny and Connolly adding to the scoring tally. Our lads played patches of nice, combined teamwork as Connolly added his third point of the game on the 21^st minute. However, the Caulry lads then seemed to sit back as Moate took charge of proceedings, scoring an unanswered 1-3 to lead at the break 1-6 to 0-7.

A quick converted-free for Moate early in the second half left a goal between the sides. Alan Daly drew one back after a good pass from Sean Fox. However, it was Moate who played the better football throughout the second half as they added 1-2 to stretch the margins between the sides. A good intercept from Mullarney set Allen up for a point on the 42^nd minute. Liam Malynn tapped over a free to leave six points the margin. Donohoe defended well as Fox and Allen added on two quick scores for Caulry. Ultimately, Moate had done enough as three late points saw them lead 2-14 to 0-12 at the fulltime whistle.
