U19 Championship
Round 1
Caulry 1-16
Tubberclair 2-10
Caulry and Tubberclair served up an exciting encounter when our U19s travelled to the opposition’s home-grounds for their first clash in the championship.
Tubberclair were first to get motoring with a short-range point assisted by the advanced mark rule. A goal moments later had the homeside four points ahead before two converted-frees from Alan Malynn got Caulry off the mark. Senan Baker then kicked the next point of the game, but was unlucky moments later as his penalty-strike shot low and wide. Malynn drew level with his point on the 11th minute. The two well-matched sides played patches of good football, but it was the opposition who were most accurate with their shots as they outscored Caulry in the closing minutes of the half to lead 1-5 to 0-6 at the break.
Both sides exchanged wides early in the second half with shots on target from Baker and Shane Lawless drawing level on the 36th minute. Another pointed-free from Malynn momentarily put our lads in front, but the scoreline was soon reversed as the homeside tagged on two unanswered points. Our lads then hit a purple patch around the 47th minute, with Baker accounting for a trio of points. His first effort from a free-kick and the other two helped by some good outfield work by the Caulry forwards. The teams exchanged a point apiece, with Malynn’s effort keeping our one-point lead intact. However, the homeside showed their hunger for a win as a dangerous ball in on top of the Caulry full-back line found its way into the net. Substitute Oisin Shortall kept his composure at the other end of the field, tapping over a point and levelling proceedings once again. Baker then made up for his earlier mis-opportunity as he riffled the back of the Tubberclair net on the 60th minute. The homeside fought hard in the additional minutes of the half, adding two points and leaving Caulry with a dangerous lead. However, scores on the 63rd and 65th minutes from Malynn and Tiarnan O’Donovan ensured Caulry ran out winners with three points to spare.

Round 2
Caulry 1-12
Moate 2-7
Our U19s made it two wins from two when they hosted Moate in the park on the following Saturday evening.
Moate raced out of the tracks with a goal inside the opening 30 seconds of play. The visitors dominated the kickouts and outscored Caulry 0-5 to 0-2 inside the first quarter of the game, with our two scores coming courtesy of pointed-frees from Alan Malynn. Malynn narrowed the gap to four with two more frees either side of the water-break. Moate struck lucky again on the 20th minute with a second goal. However, the opposition failed to push on from here as it was our lads controlled the final 10 minutes of the half. Another Malynn free preceded our first score from play, which Shane Lawless tapped over on the 22nd minute. James Buckley pounced on the resulting Moate kick-out as he tore forward, combined with Roan Sweeney and finished the move with a goal. Some Trojan-like defending forced some Moate wides as two late points from Malynn and Lawless saw the sides level at the break.
Our lads’ momentum continued in the early stages of the second half. Malynn pointed to open the half’s scoring account before some chances fell astray, despite the promising attacks from Caulry. Malynn doubled the lead on the 41st minute with another free. Sean Murphy defended well as his vital intercept was worked up the field and finished with a point from Sweeney. Moate’s first score of the half came on the 52nd minute with a pointed-free, but Malynn soon cancelled this out with a ‘45’. The Moate lads piled on the pressure with a score on the 57th minute leaving just two between the sides. Credit must be given to the Caulry defence who held strong in the closing minutes of the game, with Harry Stuart Trainor making some vital interventions as Caulry ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-12 to 2-7.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, Tadgh Baker, Sean Murphy, Adam Doyle, Harry Stuart Trainor, Olan Healy, Ciaran Gaynor, Shane Lawless (0-2), Alan Malynn (0-9, 6f, 1 ‘45’), James Buckley (1-0), Roan Sweeney (0-1), Rory Mullins, Adam Dunning, Paul Hogan, Senan Baker

U15 Championship
Caulry 2-9
Garrycastle 0-6
Our U15s had a good win over Garrycastle in the park on Friday last in their latest round of championship fixtures.
Garrycastle were first off the mark with a point from play. Simon O’Grady then put his stamp on the game with two well-taken points. Aaron Murphy was on fire as he added an unanswered 1-2 to put Caulry in the driving seat. Dean Martin’s point on the 13th minute was cancelled out with a converted free for Garrycastle. A late Murphy point saw Caulry lead 1-6 to 0-2 at the break.
Garrycastle were first off the mark in the second half with two fine points. Darragh Shortall and Eoin McCormack done well in the Caulry defence as two points from Murphy and a free from Cody Parker stretched the Caulry lead. David Gaynor fielded the ball well as his pass found Aaron Hanevy who rattled the back of the opposition’s net on the 51st minute. Despite late points for the visitors, Caulry had done enough to take the win on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-6.
Team & Scorers: Max O’Sullivan, Kyle Byrne, Sean Donnelly, Darragh Shortall, Rory Hatton, Cormac Murphy, Eoin McCormack, Dean Martin (0-1), David Gaynor, Simon O’Grady (0-2), Dean Byrnes, Lee Corcoran, Cody Parker (0-1, 1f), Aaron Murphy (1-5, 1f), Aaron Hanevy (1-0)
Subs: Cian Lawless for Simon O’Grady
