Senior & Junior Championship Fixtures

Caulry travel to Rosemount on Saturday evening next for their second round of this year’s Senior Championship at 7pm. The opposition will be provided by St Malachys. These two sides last met in the 2013 Intermediate Final and it promises to be an exciting affair.

Our Junior side will also make the journey to The Downs on Friday for their Junior Championship campaign at 7:30pm. Both sides will be hoping to build on their opening performances and notch up some points.

All supporters please get behind both sides.

Under 16 League Division 1

Caulry 3-12

Mullingar Shamrocks 2-7

Our Under 16 footballers played host to Mullingar Shamrocks on Bank Holiday Monday last. Both sides adopted well to the swirling wind, with Mullingar enjoying a great start with an early goal and a point. Unlike the previous match our lads settled well and proceeded to dominate in most sectors from here on in. Two well taken goals from Matthew Nally, together with well worked points from the same player and Liam Doyle put us in the ascendency. However, it was still little enough reward for the amount of possession that we enjoyed, with wrong options and rushed efforts hampering the scoreboard. Instead a second Shamrocks goal right on half time, amazingly left them leading 2-6 to 2-4 at the interval.

The half time talk seemed to have the desired effect. With the Colin Murphy and Neil Clinton maintaining midfield supremacy, and with half backs Darren Browne and Daniel Buckley driving forward at every opportunity, Caulry patiently added the winning scores, with three superb long range points of varying skill from Darcy Lawless being particularly noteworthy, while Matthew Nally completed his hat-trick of goals from the penalty spot. This was a good win by our lads, and showed once again the benefit of having a near full strength panel to pick from. Apart from those already mentioned, Eoin Shortall was very solid in defence, with Glen Carolan also doing well. Thomas Dunning and Adam Donoghue both produced a very high unselfish work rate which led to crucial turn overs, pinning the opposition back in their own half and resulting in Caulry scores.

Team & Scorers: James Clavin, Jack Sheehan, Eoin Shortall, Adam Mullins, Dylan Lowry, Darren Browne (0-1), Daniel Buckley, Colin Murphy (0-2), Neil Clinton (0-1), Paddy McHugh, Thomas Dunning (0-1), Liam Doyle (0-1), Adam Donoghue (0-1), Sean Fox, Matthew Nally (3-2), Darcy Lawless (0-3), Glen Carolan, Eugene Costello, Shane Hynes.

Division 1 ACFL

Caulry 0-9

Tang 0-15

Caulry made the journey to Tang on Friday evening last where they suffered a six point defeat in their latest Division 1 ACFL fixture.

Tang were first off the mark with a pointed-free inside the opening 60 seconds. Robbie Hickey soon followed suit after some great combined teamwork from Gavin Byrne and Ernie Buckley. A superb interception from Kevin Maguire allowed Alan Daly to point on the 7th minute. Three points in quick succession for the opposition put their noses in front. Jack O’Kelly Lynch defended well as Alan Fitzpatrick added to the scoring tally. Tang kicked the next two scores of the game. Sean Doyle fielded well and a point from Gavin Byrne narrowed the deficit. The teams traded scores to leave our lads trailing 0-8 to 0-5 at the interval.

On the resumption, Tang worked hard to stretch their lead. Fitzpatrick tapped over the next two scores of the game. Some good play from our lads allowed Robbie Kenny to point on the 22nd minute. However, Tang proved to be the hungrier side, tapping over three late points to seal the victory.

Team & Scorers: Joe McMahon, Michael McMahon, Declan Donohoe, Jack O’Kelly Lynch, Ernie Buckley, Kevin Maguire, Damien Dolan, Alan Fitzpatrick (0-5, 3f, 1 ‘45’), Sean Doyle, Gavin Byrne (0-1), Robbie Hickey (0-1), Alan Daly (0-1), Stephen Brookes, Robbie Kenny (0-1), Mark Fitzpatrick

Subs: Stephen Connolly for Mark Fitzpatrick, Harry Hughes for Damien Dolan, Eoin Donohoe for Alan Daly
