Sympathies

It was with great sadness and regret that we learned of the death of Ned Roarke last week. Ned was always a good supporter of the club and will be remembered for being a stalwart member of the all-conquering Junior Championship team in 1957 lining out at centre-field on the day. Ned’s honours with the club also include winning the Junior League in 1956 and 1957. Ned’s guard of honour provided by the club was testimony to the esteem he was held. The club extends its deepest sympathies to the Roarke family, Tullybane, Mount Temple, at this time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Club & Lotto Membership

Club and lotto membership is now due for payment to Michael McMahon or any committee member.

2017 Club Membership Rates are as follows:

  • Family Membership & Lotto €100

  • Family Membership (Covers two adults& children) €50

  • Adult Membership €30

  • Student & Underage Membership €20

It is imperative that all players pay their membership immediately as any player who is not a fully paid member is not insured to represent the club.

Division 2 ACFL

Caulry 3-7

Milltown 1-10

Caulry got their first win in this year’s Division 2 ACFL as they made the journey to Milltown on a fine Saturday evening last.

Caulry raced out of the tracks with a fine point from Alan Daly inside the opening 60 seconds. Milltown soon followed suit with a fine point of their own. The Milltown lads pushed hard scoring 1-1 in quick succession to take the lead. Despite some good defending for Damien Dolan, the opposition pointed again on the 11th minute. Daly pointed for Caulry to reduce the deficit. A superb pass from Sean Clinton found Robbie Hickey who rattled the back of the opposition’s net on the 17th minute. Great work from Alan Fitzpatrick enabled Hickey to fist over another fine point to leave it level-pegging. Some good combined teamwork from Eoin Fox and Hickey allowed Gary Flanagan and Daly to add to the scoring tally. Milltown were rewarded a penalty late in the half. However, a great save from Cillian Nagle meant the Milltown lads had to settle for a point to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-4 at the interval.

Two quick scores early in the second half enabled Milltown to take the lead. The game went on a point-for-point basis with Andy O’Sullivan tapping over a free for Caulry. Damien Dolan drove forward and sent the ball to the back of the Milltown net on the 44th minute to leave two points the margin. The Milltown lads never gave up drawing one back with a point from play. Some Trojan efforts from Maguire and Fitzpatrick enabled Emmet Nally to get Caulry’s third goal of the evening. A point from O’Sullivan left five points the margin on the 48th minute. However, the Milltown lads showed a never say die attitude as they kicked two late points. Ultimately, our lads had done enough to take the win with a final score of 3-7 to 1-10.
