Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 1-10
St. Marys Rochfortbridge 2-11
Our Division 2 side suffered another defeat in their latest league game when they played host to St. Marys Rochfortbridge on Sunday morning last.
The sides exchanged early frees with Colin Murphy opening our scoring account. Declan Donohoe cleared his goal-line well on the 6th minute as the opposition settled for a point. St. Marys then tore through the packed Caulry defence and rattled the net on the 9th minute. They then put five between the sides with a fine point from play. Damien Dolan drew one back after a good solo effort. However, it was the opposition who impressed as they punched holes in the Caulry defence and rattled off an unanswered five points. Conor McCormack converted a free on the 25th minute. Dolan then made another burst up the field, combining nicely with Murphy who was fouled and tapped over the resulting free. This score left our lads trailing 1-8 to 0-4 at the break.
Caulry raced out of the tracks with a goal from Eoghan Grennan soon after the resumption of play. A shot from Stephen Connolly dropped short before the teams traded frees. Our lads struggled to score from play with our next two scores coming from converted-frees from Murphy and McCormack. Sean Clinton defending well as he set Alan Daly up for a score on the 51st minute to leave just one point between the sides. However, our hope of a victory was soon diminished as St. Marys registered their second goal of the game after an initial effort came back of the post. The teams then shared four points before the final whistle as St. Marys secured their win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-10.
