U13 Leinster League Final

Hard luck to our U13 boys who were defeated by Rhode in the U13 Leinster League Final recently.

Division 2 ACFL

Caulry 0-15

Tubberclair 0-8

Caulry picked up their second brace of points in this year’s Division 2 ACFL as they made the journey to Tubberclair on Friday evening last.

Caulry were first off the mark with a pointed free from Conor McCormack on the 3^rd minute. Tubberclair soon followed suit with a point from play. A great pass from Stephen Connolly found Nally who pointed to put Caulry ahead. The Tubberclair goalie brought off a great save on the 9^th minute as McCormack tapped over another free. A superb catch from Alan Fitzpatrick at centre-field enabled Alan Daly to add to the scoring tally. Daly and Andy O’Sullivan kicked the next two scores of the game to stretch Caulry’s lead. The Tubberclair goalie brought off another great save as O’Sullivan had to settle for a point on the 18^th minute. Despite some great defending from Harry Hughes, Tubberclair drew two back with two quick scores. A late pointed-free from O’Sullivan left the scoreboard reading 0-8 to 0-3 at the interval.

Tubberclair started well early in the second half with a pointed-free. Emmet Nally and Connolly worked well as points from McCormack and Fitzpatrick left six points the margin by the 39^th minute. Damien Dolan defended well as another pointed-free from McCormack kept the scoreboard ticking over. The Tubberclair lads worked hard and kicked three points in quick succession to reduce the deficit. Darren Hynds and James Pettit had a good game in defence as a good pass from Gary Flanagan found Connolly who pointed on the 52^nd minute. The teams traded score with McCormack on target for Caulry. Two late points from O’Sullivan and Daly ensured Caulry the win on a final scoreline of 0-15 to 0-8.

Caulry 5-9

St. Malachys 4-14

Caulry and St. Malachys served up an exciting encounter on a fine Sunday morning last in our local park where our lads were edged out on a scoreline of 4-14 to 5-9.

The opposition raced out of the tracks with a fine point from play inside the opening 60 seconds. Peter Smyth registered Caulry’s first and second score of the game soon after. St. Malachys drew level on the 3^rd minute with a pointed-free. Jack O’Kelly Lynch worked hard and tapped over a fine point on the 10^th minute. However, the St. Malachys men went on a quick scoring blitz which yielded 0-4 to take the lead once again. A point from Stephen Connolly narrowed the deficit. The opposition got the first goal of the morning on the 18^th minute. However, our lads responded well with another goal at the opposite end of the field from James Daly. The teams traded scores with Smyth on target for the homeside. St. Malachys rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 27^th minute. However, after some Trojan efforts from Smyth accounting for two well taken goals, Caulry lead 3-6 to 2-8 at the halftime whistle.

After the break, Smyth pointed to double the deficit in Caulry’s favour. However, the opposition never sat back and responded with an unanswered 1-1 to take the lead. Darren Hynds and Conor Dolan defended well as Alan Daly pointed on the 41^st minute. Caulry got their fourth goal of the morning after the ball was tapped nicely into the back of the St. Malachys net by Alan Daly. Smyth sent over another pointed-free to put three points between the sides. The opposition drew one back with a point of their own. A good pass from Declan Donohoe found Connolly who rattled the opposition’s net to put Caulry into the driving seat by the 48^th minute. However, our lads seemed to sit back as further points for St. Malachys chipped away at the deficit. The opposition dug deep in the third-quarter of the game, with their hard work paying off as another goal meant it was level pegging by the 56^th minute. A pointed-free for St. Malachys put their noses in front with just 1 minute to be played. Our lads searched desperately for the equalising point with some good defending from Loughlin Casey and James Pettit. However, the opposition had done enough to escape with the win on a final scoreline of 4-14 to 5-9.
