Intermediate Championship Semi-Final Fixture

All roads lead to TEG Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon next for the eagerly awaited semi-final clash between Caulry and Tang. Our lads will be hungry for battle when they take to the field to claim an all-important county final spot. Kick-off for this clash is at 3:30pm. With the right attitude and performance, our lads will be hoping to continue on their winning streak and reach their first intermediate final since 2014. This is the lads’ most important game to-date and all supporters are asked to get behind them on the evening.

The Downs 1-15

Our minors bowed out of this year’s championship at the semi-final stages when they hosted The Downs in a high scoring affair on Thursday evening last.

The game started off with a slow tempo with Alan Malynn accounting for two Caulry frees before points for The Downs on the 13^th and 14^th minutes levelled proceedings. Both defences done well when put under pressure as the forwards struggled to score with the next score of the game arriving on the 21^st minute in the form of a converted-free for the visitors. The opposition then attacked the following kickout as a superb point from play doubled their lead. Thomas Dunning then brought Caulry back within the minimum margin with his fine long-range effort. James Clavin brought off some vital interceptions in goal when called upon as a fabulous passing move from Luke Buckley was finished to the net by Malynn on the 24^th minute. Some chances went astray then for our lads as Malynn kicked the next score of the game from a free. However, there was just enough time remaining for the opposition to work the ball up the field and point to leave Caulry in front 1-4 to 0-5 at the break.

The Downs started like an express train after the restart with a quick scoring blitz ultimately proving Caulry’s undoing. This period of dominance began within 30 second of the resumption of play as The Downs rattled the back of the Caulry net. Another point two minutes later saw them stretch their lead to two. What should have been a goal courtesy of Malynn was defended well and worked down the field and slotted over the bar on the 46^th minute by The Downs. The opposition tagged on another four points before our boys opened their second half account, this coming courtesy of Malynn on the 42^nd minute. Senan Baker stepped up with a superb score moments after. Our boys were brought right back into contention after some Trojan work from Rory Mullins who attacked the opposition’s kickout and riffled the ball to the back of the net to leave just two between the sides by the end of the third quarter. The Downs didn’t panic as they slotted over another score from play. Baker showed great vision with his well-taken score on the 46^th minute. Although dominating a lot of the possession, our lads struggled to get their names on the scoresheet with Baker kicking the next score of the game with just six minutes remaining. However, The Downs responded in style as two points from play restored their three-point lead. Another point from Baker cut the deficit, but the opposition were not going to let their lead slip as a converted-free moments later kept Caulry at arm’s length. Malynn then kicked the last score of the game deep into injury time as The Downs advanced to the county final with two points to spare on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-10.
