Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 1-12
Multyfarnham 2-7
Caulry came out on top when they made the journey to Multyfarnham on a sunny Saturday evening last for Round 4 of the Division 2 ACFL.
Playing the opening half with the sun on our backs, our lads initially found the scores easier to come by with Robbie Hickey accounting for two Caulry points, one just minutes after kick-off and the second coming courtesy of the advanced mark on the 9th minute. The homeside found their feet moments later with a fine point from play. They then punched holes in the Caulry defence, working the ball for a goal on the 11th minute. Points from Colin Murphy and Emmet Nally left it all-square by the quarter-hour mark. The two sides missed chances either side of the water break before Hickey got his hattrick of points after some quick-thinking from Kevin Maguire. Two Multyfarnham points stretched their lead to two momentarily. However, it was our lads who dominated the closing minutes of the first half. Two Nally points levelled the game late in the half thanks to outfield work from Alan Fitzpatrick, Hickey and Sean Clinton. A good ball in from Maguire found Hickey who was fouled as Nally converted this to leave Caulry in front 0-8 to 1-4 at the interval.
Another Nally free got Caulry motoring on the 34th minute. However, our lead was short-lived as two fine scores for Multyfarnham had the two teams on par once again. Both sides missed a smattering of chances as Hickey settled Caulry with a point from play on the 44th minute. What could be considered as the all-important score came at the start of the fourth quarter in the form of a penalty awarded for a foul on Andy O’Sullivan, which Nally stood up and duly converted. Neil Clinton then forced a turn-over and enabled Alan Malynn to put Caulry five points the good. However, Multyfarnham didn’t lie down as they rattled the back of the Caulry net just after the water-break to narrow the deficit. Once again, both sides missed chances, before a Multyfarnham score on the 60th minute gave our lads a dangerous lead going into additional time. Sean Murphy caught a vital ball as this move resulted in a short-free for Caulry which Nally pointed to double the lead. Our lads hung tight in the closing minutes despite the pressure from the Multyfarnham attack and escaped with the two point win.

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 1-8
Moate 0-10
Caulry and Moate served up an exciting encounter for their Round 4 clash of the Division 4 ACFL in the park on Sunday morning last.
Moate launched the first attack, which trickled out the side and wide before a Liam Malynn pointed-free opened the scoring account. Sean Murphy fielded the ball and put his name on the scoresheet. Another score from Malynn after good-combined teamwork from Adam Donoghue and Rory Mullins had Caulry three points the good before Moate got off the mark. Moate’s only two scores of the half came in tandem on the 7th and 13th minutes. It was our lads who dominated the first half play with points from Mullins and Stephen Brookes reinstating our lead. Mullins and Shane Lawless made great strides forward as they set Donoghue up for a score on the 29th minute. Darren Hynds forced a turnover in the Caulry defence, a vital move which was finished to the net by Malynn at the other end of the field to leave it 1-6 to 0-2 at the halftime whistle.
There was a role-reversal in store for the second half as Moate controlled much of the play, with our lads only tagging on two, all be them vital scores. Moate had halved the deficit to three with as many scores on the 38th, 42nd and 44th minute before Caulry tagged on their first second half score. This coming at the end of the third quarter with a point from play from Malynn. The opposition then narrowed the gap to one with two more unanswered points and the pressure piled on. Credit must be given to Paddy O’Malley who put in a massive effort when introduced into the goals, despite being a regular out-field player. A foul on a Moate forward saw them being awarded a penalty on the 54th minute and O’Malley defied the odds, bringing off two great saves (the initial penalty and a further rebound shot). The visitors were forced to settle for a point. Our lads tried hard but couldn’t quite find the posts as another Moate point left nothing between the sides with three minutes to play. An effort from Murphy was well-blocked down before Malynn found enough space to shoot, with this effort nudging Caulry in front. The Caulry defence hung tight deep into additional time, with Eoin Shortall and Glenn Carolan bringing off vital intercepts. A late Moate ‘45’ proved unsuccessful as our lads welcomed the full-time whistle which signalled our one-point win.
