Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 3-14
Maryland 0-11
Our lads were in flying form on Friday evening last when they hosted Maryland in their latest Division 2 ACFL fixture.
Caulry intercepted an early sideline ball from Maryland and after combining nicely with Paddy Sleator, Eoin Fox opened the scoring account with a fine point from play. Two shots went either side of the post before Ben Moran pointed after a superb patch of play from Colin Murphy. Our lads were sluggish to build attacks with only one of four going over the bar, this from a converted-free from Moran. Maryland then made their first burst up the field and blasted over their opening point on the 14th minute. Another Caulry shot went out wide as Declan Donohoe brought off a vital save at the other end of the field. Damien Dolan then tore forward and rattled over a fine point. However, this was as good as it got for the defender as he was forced to retire shortly after due to an injury. Our lads began to play a fine display of football as the next score of the game came from Murphy (a converted-free after a foul on Sleator). A fine pass from Sean Fox found Andy O’Sullivan who showed great vision and skill as he turned and shot the ball over the bar. Our defence done well when put under pressure as an initially blocked-down shot from O’Sullivan somehow found its way into the back of the Maryland net. Caulry began to drive on as they won the kickout and punished the opposition with another fine point from play from Emmet Nally. Maryland drew one back on the 25th minute before a ball in from Neil Clinton rebounded of the post and the Maryland goalie and ended up in the back of the net. The opposition then registered the last score of the half from a free to leave Caulry leading 2-7 to 0-3 at the interval.
Maryland started the better of the two teams in the second half with four unanswered points. However, Thomas Dunning got Caulry back on track with his fine point on the 38th minute. Conor McCormack drove forward and laid the ball off to Alan Daly who finished with a nice point. Harry Hughes and Sean Fox work tirelessly as they set Daly up for a goal moments later. Some good play from the men in blue enabled them to reduce the deficit by one. However, our lads never gave up as a superb catch at the centre of the field from Murphy enabled Fox to add his second point of the game. The teams shared three frees between the 45th and 48th minutes with Murphy and McCormack on target for the homeside. A fine point from play for the opposition was retracted with a point from Adam Donoghue after some superb work from McCormack and O’Sullivan. The teams traded late points with Dunning on target for Caulry to ensure Caulry ran out comprehensive winners on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-11.

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 2-12
Rosemount 2-10
Our juniors wrapped up their Division 4 ACFL campaign with a win over Rosemount in the park on Sunday morning last.
Caulry made a good start to the game with a fine point from Hugh Allen inside the opening 60 seconds. A few Caulry attempts went astray before the opposition opened their scoring account with a pointed-free on the 7th minute. A point from Colin Murphy edged our lads in front as the opposition’s tally of wides began to build. Peter Smyth done well when introduced as he put his stamp on the game with a well-taken point moments after his introduction. Harry Hughes fielded the ball well as he played it into Allen who showed great vision and set Smyth up for a goal on the 13th minute. Some fine defending from Eoin Shortall enabled our lads to build an attack with Smyth finishing with a point from play. Gary Flanagan then put the homeside in the driving seat as he picked his spot and rattled the back of the Rosemount net on the 16th minute. Smyth continued to impress as he added another. However, the opposition kept it interesting as they narrowed the deficit after rattling the back of the Caulry net on the 17th minute. The opposition then tore forward and were forced to take their point after a fine save from our goalie James Clavin. The teams shared five points before the break with Adam Donoghue, Thomas Dunning and Allen pointing for Caulry to leave six between the sides on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-4.
Our lads raced out of the tracks again in the second half with Declan Donohoe pointing. However, the Rosemount lads dug deep and drew two back (both from converted-frees). Hughes stretched the Caulry lead with his point of the 36th minute which was sandwiched between a myriad of wides from both sides. A superb pass from Dunning found Donoghue who left six between the sides. The teams then traded points with Smyth adding two for the homeside. Rosemount then hit the back of the Caulry net on the 58th minute and after pointing soon after, there was just three between the sides. The Caulry defence showed a never-say-die attitude as they fought hard in the dying moments of the game, denying Rosemount the equalising goal as the opposition were forced to settle for a point, ensuring our lads the win on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-10.
