St. Paul’s 1-7
Our juniors finished on a high in their final game of this year’s Division 4 ACFL when they ran out comprehensive winners over St. Paul’s on Sunday morning last in the park.
Despite an early effort from Alan Daly coming back off the post, our lads opened the scoring account with a fine point from play from Colin Murphy. St. Paul’s soon drew level on the 5th minute with a point of their own. Both sides spurned some scoring chances as Anthony Allen kicked the next score of the game on the 8th minute. The opposition rattled the post and had to settle for a point on the 10th minute. However, our lads responded well as Murphy rose his second white flag of the game. Harry Hughes and James Daly worked hard as they set Peter Smyth up for a score on the 13th minute. Andy O’Sullivan then left five points between the sides as he rattled the back of the St. Paul’s net. Sean Fox and Darren Hynds impressed in the backline as Allen and Stephen Brookes tagged on some points. St. Paul’s never backed down as they kept in touch by adding an unanswered 1-1 late in the half. However, O’Sullivan put Caulry back in the driving seat before the interval as he combined well with Liam Malynn sending the ball to the back of the opposition’s net.
The second half followed in much the same vein with Caulry dominating throughout. Our lads raced out of the tracks with a trio of points from O’Sullivan, Alan Daly and Brookes. Murphy’s shot on goal was brilliantly blocked down by the St. Paul’s goalie as he settled for a point. O’Sullivan and Murphy then combined well enabling Neil Clinton to put his name on the scoresheet. Brain Mullarney intercepted the ball well as O’Sullivan got his hattrick at the end of the third quarter. Malynn then added with a fine finish to leave Caulry fourteen points the good. St. Paul’s struggled to get the ball into their inside forwards as their first scores of the second half came on the 47th and 50th minute with two fine points. Smyth and Daly set Clinton up for a point soon after. Further scores from Allen and Connolly stretched the margins between the sides. Two late scores for the opposition meant Caulry ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 3-17 to 1-7.
This win means our lads finish up with 6 points securing their place in Division 4 ACFL for nest year. Well done all.
