Club AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Caulry club was held on last Friday night in Mount Temple Community Centre. A minutes silence was observed at the start of the meeting for all deceased members and their families during the past year. Outgoing chairman James Casey welcomed the good sized attendance on this the 90th anniversary of the club and began his report. James began by expressing sincere gratitude to all those involved in managing the club’s adult teams this year, including Dessie Dolan and Gary Johnson, Gary Flanagan, Ronan Carroll and Richie Allen for their work with the intermediate team. He also thanked the junior management team of Jody Malynn, Damien Keenan and Robbie Ryan, and Kevin Connaughton, John Burke, Richie Higgins and John Smyth who were involved with the U20 team. James praised the hard work of the minor board and thanked all underage mentors and parents for their cooperation and support during the year. James then complimented the local schools of An Grianán NS and St. Ciaran’s NS for their working in promoting GAA in the community and he congratulated Caulry ladies on their very successful year.

James then spoke highly of the hardworking development committee in the club and termed our new floodlit walking track and pitch as a ‘welcomed addition’ to the club and wider community. James further thanked all who volunteered their time during the year, the maintenance crew, FÁS workers, lotto sellers, sponsor and his fellow officers for their ongoing support and commitment.

Finally, James wished all club members, supporters and their families a happy Christmas and successful New Year and he wished all senior and underage teams the best of luck in their 2019 campaigns.

The outgoing secretary Keith Dolan then reiterated many of the chairman’s comments. He also gave a detailed account of all matches and activities during the past year. Keith praised the junior team for their performance in Division 4 ACFL, finishing third in the group, but expressed disappointment as we were unable to field in the later stages of the junior championship. Keith acknowledged the work of the club’s intermediate team who finished 4th in the Division 2 ACFL and reached the semi-final stages of the intermediate championship after 3 years playing at the top level. He also praised our U20 team who were defeated in the quarter-final stages of the championship.

Keith then acknowledged the achievements of the ladies during the year and thanked all members, supporter, players and management for their commitment.

The outgoing treasurer, Padraig Killane’s report showed the ever-increasing cost of running the club. He stated that the club lotto and buster draw were major fundraisers for the past year and thanked all who contributed so generously to all fundraising during the year.
