Pop Up Dress Shop Fundraiser
Many thanks to Geraldine Kenny and all who were involved in organising the Pop Up Dress Shop Fundraiser for our ladies’ club recently.
U12 Street League
Over the past few weeks, our U12 boys played a series of games in our street league. This new initiative set up by the club gave our younger players a chance to develop their skills and have fun while under the guidance of a few of our intermediate players. It was a superb chance to foster a bond between the lads and for the boys to learn plenty from our adult players. Well done to the boys and their mentors for their commitment over the past few weeks and thanks to the parents who provided refreshments. A special thanks to our intermediate players Stephen Connolly, Cillian Nagle and Darren Hynds for their help. Well done all.
Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 3-8
Ballynacargy 3-12
Our lads suffered a four point defeat in their third game in this year’s Division 2 ACFL as they made the journey to Ballynacargy on Saturday afternoon last.
Our lads raced out of the tracks with a fine point inside the opening 60 seconds. The homeside kicked their first wide of the game as we doubled the deficit on the 4th minute after some fine play from Colin Murphy and Alan Daly. Sean Fox won the opposition’s kickout before a shot on goal from Murphy trickled out to the side and wide. Ballynacargy then found some rhythm to their play with three quick points to take the lead. However, Murphy responded well as he played the ball low and sent it to the back of the opposition’s net on the 9th minute. A point for Ballynacargy left one between the sides. Murphy then done well, beating the defence with his effort being helped over by the crossbar. A shot from John Maguire fell short as the opposition pointed. Damien Dolan intercepted the ball well as a good pass found Murphy who pointed from a tight angel. The Fox brothers then combined well with the elder of the two, Eoin, leaving three between the sides with a fine score from play. Neil Clinton then registered the next two scores of the game, one a point after a fine pass from Liam Malynn and the second a well-taken goal after combining nicely with Murphy. However, Ballynacargy responded with a goal of then own moments later to leave our lads in front at the interval on a scoreline of 2-6 to 1-5.
The opposition were first to point in the second half, before Eoghan Grennan tapped the ball into back of the net. The teams then traded points with Grennan adding for Caulry after a pinpoint kickout from Gary Flanagan. A converted-free from Murphy left four between the sides. However, this was as good as it got for our lads as a trojan closing 20 minutes from the opposition saw them dig out a win. This comeback started with a converted-free for the opposition on the 41st minute. Despite setting up attacks, our lads struggled to find the posts with a number of efforts trailing off wide or becoming lost in the opposition’s defence. One such attack was brilliantly turned over by the Ballynacargy no. 6 who drove up the centre of the field and riffled the back of the Caulry net. The opposition then kicked a point to leave them behind by one. Ballynacargy punched holes in our defence with a third goal putting them into the lead with 5 minutes remaining. Two late points for the opposition saw them dig out the win on a scoreline of 3-12 to 3-8.
Despite suffering the defeat, our lads will undoubtedly take positives from the game which saw plenty of patches of fine football from both sides.
