U14 Championship

Caulry 2-7

St. Josephs 2-6

Our U14 boys notched up another win on Thursday evening last when they battled it out against St. Josephs in a tight affair.

Some good play early on in the game from David Gaynor set Andrew Stuart Trainor up for the opening score before the opposition edged in front with two points. Stuart Trainor then launched Caulry into the lead as he converted a penalty after six minutes. St. Josephs struggled to convert chances as another score from the Caulry full-forward put the homeside three points the good. The opposition then found their shooting boots, tapping over three points as a late score from Stuart Trainor put the minimum between the sides at the break.

Despite kicking the first score of the second half after good play from Tiarnan O’Donovan, our boys failed to push on and let the opposition back into the game. St. Josephs made the most of their period of superiority as they tagged on an unanswered 2-1. Stuart Trainor drew one back from a placed ball on the 51^st minute. Caulry then regained initiative as a score from Brendan Kelly McCormack after a good pass from Lee Corcoran left three between the sides. The Caulry boys dug deep for the closing minutes of the game with Stuart Trainor levelling the game with his goal from a well-worked free. Oisin Shortall then done well as he kicked a free under pressure to put Caulry’s noses in front. Our defence held strong late in the game with Ian Malone doing well in goals to clear any attacks from the St. Josephs’ boys to ensure Caulry escaped with the win on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2-6.

U17 Championship

Caulry 7-10

Cill Óige 4-11

Our U17 lads advance to Round 2 of this year’s championship after coming out on top over Cill Óige in the park on Saturday afternoon last.

Both teams burst out of the tracks, exchanging early goals with Alan Malynn on target for Caulry. Malynn then combined nicely with Shane Lawless who rattled the back of the Cill Óige net on the 4^th minute. Caulry attacked the following kickout with Malynn finishing with a fine point from play. The teams then traded pointed-frees on the 9^th and 10^th minutes before Luke Buckley sent over his first point of the game after some good fielding from James Carey. Cill Óige struggled to get scores from play as they tapped over their third free of the game. Senan Baker and Carey worked hard out the field as they set Malynn and Lawless up for two more fine points from play. Baker showed great vision when he picked his spot and riffled the back of the Cill Óige net on the 21^st minute. Another Malynn point was sandwiched between two Cill Óige frees with the opposition adding their first score from play moments before the halftime whistle to leave Caulry leading 3-6 to 1-5.

Cill Óige were first to launch an attack in the second half with a goal chance trickling off to the side and wide. Baker then made no mistake at the other end of the field and he shot for his second goal of the game. Moments later Baker secured his hattrick after a good patch of play from Leroy Coughlan. James Buckley put his name on the scoresheet on the 33^rd minute before the opposition drew two back with a free and point from play. Malynn got lucky on the 40^th minute as his ball in hopped in over the goalie’s head. However, Cill Óige responded in style with a well-taken goal from distance. Olan Healy and Rory Mullins combined well outfield as they found Malynn who tagged on a point for the homeside. Cill Óige then hit a purple patch between the 47^th and 52^nd minutes which yielded an unanswered 2-2 adn left just five between the sides. However, Lawless showed good leadership as he tagged on 1-1 to break the opposition’s momentum. The teams then shared two points before the final whistle as Caulry ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 7-10 to 4-11.
