Caulry Beat Moate All Whites in Thrilling U-12 C Final

In this U-12 C Football Final that was played on (Pitch 2) at the Athlone GAA grounds on Saturday last, Caulry came with a late surge, to snatch victory in the final minutes of the game, over the gallant All-Whites.

This game produced top quality and very entertaining football, from both sides and with the commitment, endeavours and skills level on view, from both sets of youngsters, one could readily gather that the future of Gaelic football in Caulry and Moate is secure and flourishing. The lead changed hands quite a number of times in this exciting contest, and it took two late goals, from Owen Dalton and Colin Ryan, to finally tip the balance in favour of the Red and Whites.

Player of the Match

Moate, certainly had the best player on view, in midfielder Conor Hynds. As well as scoring three points himself, Conor also soloed forty metres in the first half, before giving a brilliant pass to Aaron Martin,, for the full forward to crash home a great goal for the Lily Whites. Mark Ennis sent in a speculative lob, that completely deceived the Caulry custodian, Philip Connell and ended up in the back of the net for a somewhat, fortuitous goal indeed. It was also the first of the All-Whites’ two first half goals.

Caulry recorded five excellent points while playing into the stiff breeze during the first twenty five minutes of play.

Their scores came from Gavin Byrne, one point, Daragh Allen, two points, plus a point each from Eddie Daly and Anthony Allen, to keep the red and whites well in the hunt, while the smallest player on the park, the livewire Redmond Arigho, replied with a point for Moate, to leave the score at the interval reading 2-1 to 0-5 in favour of the All-Whites.

Second Half

In a nailbiting, final twenty five minutes of play, the All Whites put in a sterling effort against the breeze, to try and take the laurels. Aaron Martin with a goal, Conor Hynds scored his three points, while their centre half back James Keneghan came up field, to send over the final point of the game for Moate. Talented Caulry put in a blistering final five minutes, that enabled them to take the spoils. Their three second half goals were to prove vital to the outcome of this very good game of football.

For Caulry, Sean Sleator, Shane Mahon, Michael Fitzpatrick in defence, Owen Dalton and Eddie Daly in midfield, Colin Ryan, Anthony Allen and Daragh Allen in the attack, were outstanding on the day, while for gallant Moate, Guy Wingfield Horan in goal, Mark Slammon, A.J. Deehan, Simon Gillivan, Redmond Arigho and James Keneghan in the backline, Conor Hynds and Shane Kelly in midfield, forwards Pat Flaherty, Mark Ennis, Brendan Arigho and Aaron Martin, all made a notable contribution to the All-Whites’ cause.
