Official Opening *UPDATE*

Unfortunately due to the adverse weather forecast for this weekend and current information available, the official opening of Caulry's new pitch / walking track and all activities planned for Sunday 23rd September have been cancelled. The event will be rescheduled at a later date.

Ladies Junior County Final

Caulry ladies will battle it out against Moate on Saturday afternoon next in the Junior Championship County final. This is a massive achievement for our girls as this is their first year to field an adult team. With the right attitude and performance, our ladies will be hoping to make history and be crowned junior champs. Kick-off for this all-important clash is at 2pm in Athlone. All supporters are asked to get behind the team. Good luck girls.

Caulry 1-10

Tang 0-13

Our lads secured themselves a semi-final spot in this year’s championship when they battled it out against an evenly-match Tang side for the fifth and final group stage game of this year’s championship.

Both sides were slow to settle, trading early wides before the opposition got off the mark on the 9^th minute after capitalising on a mistake in the Caulry defence. Colin Murphy responded well as he found Andy O’Sullivan who opened the scoring account for Caulry. Our lads spurned a scoring chance as Tang judged ahead with a converted-free. Cialan Dollard soon levelled proceedings for the second time in the game on the 14^th minute. Stephen Connolly showed well at midfield as some more scoring opportunities went astray for Caulry. A superb long-range shot from Ben Kenny sailed over the bar on the 18^th minute. However, this lead was short-lived as Tang raced up the field and tapped over a point of their own. Sean Clinton and Alan Daly combined well and drove out of the defence setting Peter Smyth up for his first score of the game on the 21^st minute. Damien Dolan then put his name on the scoresheet after some more good play from Clinton. This was soon followed by a well-taken point from the fist of Kevin Maguire to leave Caulry three points the good. The teams then traded frees before a couple of late Caulry attacks failed to pay dividends leaving Caulry ahead by two at the break on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-5.

Harry Hughes raced out of the tracks with a quick point from playing inside the opening 60 seconds of the second half. However, our lads failed to push on as it was the opposition who kicked the next three scores of the game, two from open play and one converted-free. Daly raced up the field as his attempt of a score trickled out over the sideline for a ‘45’, which our lads failed to convert. A superb pass from Clinton then found Colin Murphy who edged Caulry in front with his goal on the 40^th minute. Again, the opposition never seemed phased as they raced up the field and drew one back. Another converted-free for Tang left just one between the sides as the Caulry lads really struggled to convert chances. Maguire brought off a number of vital intercepts as both sides were guilty of some sloppy play. Tang drew level on the 51^st minute as their defence dealt well when put under pressure by the Caulry inside forward line. The opposition then got their noses in front with two fine points on the 55^th and 57^th minutes respectively. However, the Caulry lads showed their never-say-die attitude as Dollard converted a free, leaving just one between the sides. As the final whistle loomed, the Caulry lads dug deep with Conor McCormack eventually tapping over the equaliser deep into stoppage.

This result means Caulry finish in second place with 7 points and look forward to a semi-final in three weeks time.

U17 Championship Quarter-Final

The Downs 1-14

Our U17s bowed out of this year’s championship in the quarter-final stages when they made the journey to The Downs on Sunday morning last.

Our lads got off to a good start after Senan Baker’s fine point inside the opening 20 seconds. The Downs struggled to find their feet and tagged on some wides before opening their scoring account from a free on the 6^th minute. James Clavin brought off a vital save soon after as a converted free and ‘45’ saw The Downs take the lead. A fine ball in from Rory Mullins found Thomas Dunning who hit the back of the opposition’s net to edge Caulry in front. However, the opposition never looked phased as they tapped over an equalising point on the 24^th minute. Our lads then pushed on again with a goal from Roan Sweeney before the opposition tagged on an unanswered 1-1 to take the lead. A late point from Baker saw it all-square at the halftime whistle on a scoreline of 2-2 to 1-5.

Both sides were slow to settle in the second half with some early wides. Alan Malynn converted a free before Dunning added a point to put Caulry two ahead. However, our lads failed to push on as the opposition dominated the last 20 minutes of play, outscoring Caulry 0-9 to 0-0 to run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 1-14 to 2-4.
