Westmeath Minor
Well done to Luke Buckley, Rory Mullins, Olan Healy, Roan Sweeney and the Westmeath squad on their victory over Longford last Tuesday, with Luke contributing a goal to the victory.
U16 League
Caulry 7-19
Mullingar Shamrocks 0-7
Caulry played Mullingar shamrocks in the league last Monday.
We were first to score with a free from Malynn. Mullingar replied with a point. Shane Lawless then goaled for Caulry after some great team work. Joey Berry then rifled one over before Paul Hogan hit the back of the net. Berry then registered his second point before Adam Dunning fielded brilliantly from a Mullingar kick out and seeing the Mullingar keeper out of position, rifled the ball over his head into the back of the net. Our backline was in another mean mood on the night and Mullingar were finding it hard to get scores. Brilliant defending by Sean Murphy and a quick counterattack saw Hogan register his second goal. Points from Senan Baker, Shane Lawless, Tom Cloonan and Alan Malynn saw Caulry lead at halftime on a score line of 4-7 to 0-4.
Caulry continued attacking in the second half with points from James Buckley, Baker, Malynn, Alan Lynam and Harry Stuart Trainor. Ruairi Casey was solid in goals and with good kick outs finding their targets, Caulry launched more attacks with goals from Malynn , Murphy and Tiarnan O’Donovan. This saw Caulry run out easy winners on a score line of 7-19 to 0-7. Caulry played very well on the evening and our backline of Murphy, Adam Doyle, O’Donovan, Stuart Trainor, Cloonan and Lynam are playing very well as a unit and are not conceding easy scores. The midfield duo of Lawless and Baker worked very hard and covered every blade of grass and gave our forwards amble supply of ball to run up big scores. All round a very good team effort.
Team & Scorers: Ruairi Casey, Tiarnan O’Donovan (1-0), Sean Murphy (1-0), Adam Doyle, Harry Stuart Trainor (0-1), Tom Cloonan (0-1), Alan Lynam (0-1), Senan Baker (0-2), Shane Lawless (1-2), Jamie Conlon, Alan Malynn (1-6), James Buckley (0-2), Adam Dunning (1-1), Paul Hogan (2-0), Joey Berry (0-2)

Minor League
Caulry 5-14
Tubberclair 1-12
Caulry entertained Tubberclair on Thursday evening of last week in the Westmeath Minor League. They chalked up their third straight win before a good-sized attendance. The well drilled Caulry boys were quickly out of the blocks and their quick passing game allied to excellent movement yielded three early goals. All of these scores involved movement from defence to attack with Alan Malynn first to score, rifling with his left to the net after his initial right foot effort had been blocked. A similar move was finished in emphatic style by Westmeath minor, Luke Buckley. This was followed by a brilliant left foot finish from Shane Lawless, whose movement caused all sorts of problems for his marker. Points from the boots of Luke, James Carey, Senan Baker and a fisted effort from Olan Healy completed the first half score, although midway through this, Caulry took their foot of the gas, and the concession of some very avoidable frees allowed the opposition bback into the contest. Interval score read 3-4 to 0-8.
The half time talk and the switch of Senan Baker to midfield give the effort renewed energy on the resumption. The second period was much more even keel and Caulry controlled the match from here on. The increased work rate and superior skill levels allowed us to add some lovely tean scores to embellish the scoreboard.
Team & Scorers: Ruairi Casey, Sean Murphy, Glenn Carolan, Rory Mullins, Colm Shortall, Tom Cloonan, Luke Hamilton, James Carey (0-1), Thomas Dunning, Senan Baker (0-2), Luke Buckley (2-3), Olan Healy (0-1), Adam Donoghue (0-1), Shane Lawless (1-1), Alan Malynn (2-3), James Clavin, Leroy Coughlan (0-1), Conor McKnight, Sean Malone (0-1)
Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 0-12
Tubberclair 0-11
Our lads seem to have gotten their Division 2 ACFL campaign back on track as they notched up their second consecutive win when they made the short journey to Tubberclair on Friday evening last.
A pinpoint pass from Conor McCormack enabled Andy O’Sullivan to open the scoring account within the opening 60 seconds of play. O’Sullivan then doubled his tally as his short-range free was helped over the bar by the post after a foul on Paddy Sleator. Tubberclair then went on the attack with their initial attempt resulting in a wide before a point on the 11th minute got them off the mark. The homeside then missed two scorable chances before hitting a purple patch between the 20th and 24th minutes which saw them rattle off four quick points. Sleator steadied Caulry with his score on the 27th minute as Harry Hughes combined well with Eoin Fox who pointed to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides at the interval.
Tubberclair drove hard in the opening moments of the second half with only one of their three attacks paying dividends. The teams then exchanged points with Alan Daly on target. Fox raced forward and played the ball back to O’Sullivan who kept Caulry in touch as the match continued on a point-for-point basis. Both sides converted-frees as an important score came from McCormack who levelled the match on the 43rd minute. Another effort from McCormack was defended well. However, O’Sullivan pounced on the rebound ball and put our lads’ noses in front. Damien Dolan proved to be a reliable resource in the Caulry defence as he nullified a number of attacks from the men in yellow and green. Kevin Maguire and McCormack worked well together, recycling the ball and setting O’Sullivan up for his fifth point of the game. Sean Fox impressed in defence as Dolan made a burst up the field and put his name on the scoresheet on the 57th minute. Another free from O’Sullivan left four between the sides. However, the opposition dug deep and kept fighting to the bitter-end as three unanswered scores meant Caulry were lucky to escape with the win on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-11.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Sean Clinton, Damien Dolan (0-1), Sean Fox, Eoin Fox (0-1), Ben Moran, Loughlin Casey, John Maguire, Kevin Maguire, Alan Daly (0-1), Conor McCormack (0-2, 1f), Neil Clinton, Andy O’Sullivan (0-6, 2f), Paddy Sleator (0-1), Eoghan Grennan
Subs: Harry Hughes for Eoghan Grennan, Declan Donohoe for John Maguire, Gary Flanagan for Paddy Sleator, Adam Donoghue for Alan Daly
Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 1-9
Shandonagh 0-8
Our Division 4 side had a good win in their latest ACFL game when they travelled to Shandonagh on Saturday evening last.
Some good pressure from the Caulry defence forced the homeside to notch up a few wides before the ball was brilliantly worked up the field and tapped over the bar by Harry Hughes. Shandonagh got off the mark soon after as they converted a short-range free. The teams then traded scores with Adam Donoghue adding one for Caulry after a good pass from Gary Flanagan. Our lads struggled to build on attacks as the opposition punished Caulry’s mistakes by tapping over four quick points from play. Sean Fox defused a Shandonagh threat which eventually trickled out wide on the 18th minute. Donoghue and Flanagan combined well setting Anthony Allen up for a fine point moments later. Our lads then attacked the kickout and after some fine play from Neil Clinton, Allen tapped over his second score of the game. This was shortly followed by a converted-free from Allen after a foul on Flanagan. Some stalwart defending from Eoin Shortall saw the opposition lead by one at the halftime break on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-5.
Both teams were sluggish in the opening minutes of the second half and missed early chances. Michael McMahon dealt well with shots on goal as an attempt from Paddy Sleator at the other end of the field was easily blocked down. Allen then got Caulry back on track as he levelled the game on the 41st minute. This was shortly followed by a well-taken goal from substitute Liam Malynn moments after his introduction. Shortall impressed in defence throughout the second half as a point from Sleator stretched our lead to four. The opposition drew one back before both sides traded a series of wides. Allen then got his fifth of the game as he bet two Shandonagh defenders. Thomas Dunning put his name on the scoresheet before the final score of the game came as Shandonagh converted a free to secure our lads the win on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-8.
Team & Scorers: Michael McMahon, Adam Mullins, Eoin Shortall, Darren Hynds, Dylan Lowry, Sean Fox, Loughlin Casey, Declan Donohoe, Neil Clinton, Alan Daly, Anthony Allen (0-5, 1f), Harry Hughes (0-1), Adam Donoghue (0-1), Gary Flanagan, Paddy Sleator (0-1)
Subs: Conor Dolan for Darren Hynds, Liam Malynn (1-0) for Harry Hughes, Thomas Dunning (0-1) for Alan Daly, Sylvester Coughlan for Paddy Sleator, Ciaran Allen for Adam Donoghue, Harry Hughes for Loughlin Casey
