U16 Championship Semi-Final
Caulry 2-11
St. Lomans 1-18
Our U16 boys bowed out of this year’s championship at the semi-final stages on Monday evening last when they made the journey to Lakepoint Park.
Our boys started like an express train and were 1-2 up before the opposition got off the mark. Alan Malynn opened the scoring account with a point from play after good outfield work from James Buckley. Senan Baker played an integral role in setting up our next two attacks with Oisin Shortall pointing and Tiarnan O’Donovan registering the first goal of the game after two minutes. St. Lomans kept their cool and settled into the game by rattling off four points in two minutes to narrow the deficit. The game then continued on a tit for tat basis with both sides cancelling each other out. The homeside drew level on the 26th minute before a point from Andrew Stuart Trainor at the other end of the field edged our boys in front. Ruiari Casey brought off a fine save. However, the opposition pounced on the rebound ball and pointed leaving it all square at the break on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-9.
It was the opposition who raced out of the tracks in the second half with a quick scoring blitz yielding an unanswered 1-5 and launching them into a strong lead. Points from Malynn and Stuart Trainor drew two back. However, St. Lomans soon restored their lead by the end of the third quarter as they converted two short-range frees. A good move by Malynn was rounded off by Stuart Trainor as he pointed for his third off the game. Harry Stuart Trainor and Sean Murphy worked hard in the Caulry defence as the ball was worked up the field and sent to the back of the St. Lomans’ net on the 51st minute. The opposition then responded in style as a good interception was worked up the field and tapped over the bar. Our boys worked tirelessly and were in need of a goal with efforts from Baker and Shortall being well-blocked down as two late Malynn frees meant St. Lomans advance to the final on a scoreline of 1-18 to 2-11.

Minor Championship
Caulry 4-15
St. Lomans 2-9
Our minors had a great win over St. Lomans in the park on Wednesday evening last for their Round 3 championship game.
The teams shared four points early in the game with Thomas Dunning and Senan Baker finding their shooting boots for Caulry. St. Lomans edged in front briefly on the 10th minute with their third score of the game before Rory Mullins levelled proceedings with his well worked point despite being surrounded by the blue’s defence. However, Caulry was then dealt a double blow as two impressive diagonal balls into the St. Lomans attack resulted in two goals. Our boys never seemed phased with points from Luke Buckley, Alan Malynn and Tom Cloonan halving the deficit. A goalward shot from Sean Murphy was saved but Dunning made no mistake seconds later as he rattled the back of the opposition’s net after some good play by Baker. St. Lomans pointed from a free as 21 minutes elapsed. However, our lads’ momentum was still on a high as they outscored the visitors 1-3 to 0-1 to lead by four at the interval.
St. Lomans hit the ground running with a point 20 second after the restart. Olan Healy worked tirelessly in the Caulry defence as he played a roll in setting Buckley up for his second point of the game. The Caulry lads’ heads seemed to drop momentarily as a trio of chances went wide. However, Adam Donoghue soon got Caulry back on track with his goal on the 39th minute after great vision from Baker and outfield work from Healy and Glenn Carolan. The teams then shared six points with Donoghue and Malynn adding to the scoring tally. Baker impressed throughout the game as he added 1-1 to really put the game to bed. A late point for St. Lomans then brought an end to the very entertaining hour of football as our lads deservedly prevailed on a scoreline of 4-15 to 2-9.
