Intermediate Championship -

Caulry clash with Ballymore in the Intermediate football championship quarter-final on Saturday evening next at 5pm at Westmeath GAA headquarters, Cusack Park Mullingar. Throw-in is at 5pm and your support for our lads would be appreciated in what is sure to be a difficult encounter.

Minor Championship

Caulry 2-16

Ballynacargy 3-8

Caulry and Ballynacargy served up an entertaining Minor championship match at our local venue on Saturday evening last. Caulry got off to a good start to lead 2-4 to 0-2 after the first quarter. However, the visitors drew level with a scoring blitz, before our lads showed great character and composure to ride out the storm and regain a two point interval lead.

With Alan Daly and Patrick Sleator dominant in the middle sector, Caulry controlled play on the changeover and although it took a while to register this on the scoreboard, their superiority eventually told, with a couple of long range frees from Eoin Fox and Stephen Byrne from play being particular highlights.

This was another good all round performance from all the players on duty. Apart from those already mentioned Aaron Roarke and Hugh Allen were particularly effective. Caulry now go forward to the quarter final, probably on Wednesday week.

Under 16 Championship Division 3

Caulry 5-8

Tyrrellspass 5-7

Caulry qualified for the semi-final of the Under 16 Division 3 championship in another high scoring encounter with Tyrrellspass at home on Monday week last. If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it. Caulry built up a substantial lead of fifteen points and seemed to be cruising coming into the closing stages.

However, the visitors went on a scoring spree and we were lucky to hoid on to win by the minimum margin. Caulry’s best performers on the evening were Charlie Parker, Neil and Sean Clinton, Colin Murphy and Kevin O Flaherty.

Under 14 Championship Division 1

Caulry 1-6

St Lomans Mullingar 2-5

Caulry made the long journey to Lakepoint Park Mullingar to take on the home side St Lomans in the latest Under 14 Championship match on Thursday evening last. On what was a miserable evening for football with driving wind and constant downpour of rain, was somewhat compounded by the result. Both teams endeavoured to play football in the trying conditions and Caulry played with whatever favourable breeze was available in the opening half. However, they were undone by two breakaway goals to trail 2-2 to 1-3 at the interval. Our lads enjoyed territorial advantage for most of the second period, but were unable to make it count on the scoreboard, as the hosts were content to hit on the break.

Both sides could only manage three points each and we were once again left to rue many missed scoring opportunities. However, the efforts of the players could not be faulted in the prevailing conditions. James Clavin and his defensive six were solid all through, with Jack Sheehan and Neil Clinton were particularly exceptional. Colin Murphy and Sean Fox took the game to Lomans and provided amble supply to an attack which found the conditions and massed defence tough going. Only Liam Doyle and Thomas Dunning offered the necessary threat and nous to trouble the home rearguard.

Under 12 Football

Our Under 12 team played host to Tyrrellspass on Wednesday last. On what was a torrential wet evening, our lads went down on a 1-9 to 2-3 despite their best efforts.

Fixtures

Caulry U12 play Mullingar Shamrocks in the League away this Wednesday evening at 7pm.

Caulry Under 16 Championship semi-final against Killucan on Monday next September 8th at 7pm in Caulry.
