JFC 2 Semi-Final Fixture
Our junior side make the journey to Kilbeggan on Sunday afternoon next for their semi-final clash. The opposition will be provided by Coralstown/Kinnegad and kick-off is at 1:30pm. A win on the day will see our lads progress to the Junior 2 Championship County Final and we wish the lads and their managements the very best of luck.
As this game takes place behind closed door, live match updates will be posted throughout the game on our social media.
U17 Championship Quarter-Final
Caulry 2-6
Coralstown/Kinnegad 0-9
Our U17 lads advance to the semi-final stages of this year’s championship after they overcame Coralstown/Kinnegad after extra time in the park on a wet and miserable Wednesday evening last.
It was Caulry who raced into an early lead on the 3rd minute when Andrew Stuart Trainor made the most of the advance mark, dropping the ball into the back of the net over the opposition’s goalie’s head. Despite owning much of the possession early on, Caulry failed to convert some chance with Senan Baker converting the next score after ten minutes thanks to a good pass from Alan Malynn. Coralstown/Kinnegad concluded the lacklustre first half, slotting over two points to leave Caulry lead by two at the halftime whistle.
It was the visitors who got off to a good start in the second half, tagging on two early points and drawing level on the 38th minute. A fine point moment later temporarily edged their noses in front. However, a converted-free from Malynn soon cancelled this out. The game continued on this tit-for-tat basis with a Coralstown/Kinnegad point being cancelled out by a fine score from Stuart Trainor. Both teams missed some scoring chances as they struggled with the poor conditions, sharing a point apiece in the closing five minutes to force the game to extra time as the sides finished level on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-7.
As the conditions deteriorated and visibility lessened, so too did the standard of football as both sides failed to point in the first half of extra time. Coralstown/Kinnegad then took to the filed with determination after the break, converting a free inside the opening 60 seconds. Caulry were patient in attack despite being under severe pressure as Shane Lawless pointed and levelled the game once again. Another pointed-free nudged Coralstown/Kinnegad ahead. However, the Caulry lads never gave up as Lawless showed great vision when he sent a high-ball in and chipped the opposition’s keeper to put Caulry two points the good with three minutes to play. Baker then converted a late free, securing our lads the win on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-9. This win means our lads progress to a semi-final clash against Killucan which is to be played next weekend in Caulry.
