Caulry travelled to Rosemount on Wednesday evening last for this latest Minor league fixture against the amalgamation side of Rosemount and Castledaly. The strong swirling wind made ball control difficult with the result that the teams opted for a lot of short play resulting in turnovers and scores at a premium in the opening quarter. Despite having the lions share of possession, our lads found themselves behind as a result of the concession of two quick fire host goals, one a penalty. A good diagonal pass from Ciaran Geoghegan set Darren Browne up for a well worked opening point although a goal seemed on. However another defensive mix-up saw the concession of a third preventable goal. However, inspired by a wholehearted display from our stand out player, Adam Mullins breaking from defence, our lads kept up the pressure. His half back colleagues Luke Hamilton and Dylan Lowry also provided timely interceptions in this period. Caulry then settled with two well taken old fashioned expertly struck frees from the ground by Thomas Dunning and a well taken goal from Adam Donoghue after a good run along the end line. Half time score reading 3-2 to 1-4.

The introduction of Olan Healy, Roan Sweeney and Senan Baker livened things up in attack with Roan and Senan contributing scores. With Sean Fox and Thomas Dunning controlling the possession, Caulry remained in the ascendency attacking wise. A great point on the run by Paddy McHugh raised expectations and was followed by two well struck long frees from the hand by Adam Donoghue. This set up a grand stand finish with just a solidarity point separating the teams entering the closing stages. However, yet another mix up for a fourth goal allowed the combination team a rather flattering winning margin on the balance of play.

The old adage ‘of goals win games’ was certainly true here and while the result is disappointing our lads know there is plenty of room and time for improvement before the championship approaches.
